Marco Rubio, the former Florida state House Speaker and current insurgent conservative candidate in the 2010 Republican primary for Senate, has just picked up a big-name supporter: Karl Rove, who has donated $1,000 to the campaign.

Rubio is facing an uphill battle against the big favorite in the race, moderate Republican Gov. Charlie Crist. Rubio has hoped to mobilize conservative resentments against Crist, especially over Crist's backing of President Obama's stimulus bill. And as of right now, it appears he has a big ally in his battle against the national GOP establishment.

I'm not rooting for Rubio. If he beats Crist, he wins that Senate seat. Who are the Democrats putting up? Kendrick Meek???

Shouldn't Rove be saving his money for his legal defense fund?

This can only mean one thing: Rubio's going to play the gay card on Christ.

The vituperation from the hard right opposed to Crist is all over the right flank of the Florida Republicans blogspace. They can't snarl enough about how Crist and his best guy Lemieux are not frothing at the mouth conservatives. Crist endeared himself to no social conservatives with his pick of Lemieux.

Lemieux brings along the gambling baggage, [He's negotiating the state's gambling compact] and his position on gay rights and gay adoption from an earlier state run make him, if not a pariah, a fellow traveler with the secular humanist crowd.

NOW since we are known by the friends who donate to our campaigns, this is a gift to progressives who can hang bushes "turd blossom" around Rubio's neck - and subtly support Crist against Rubio.

Turd-blossom - we remember - thanks for reminding Floridians what it's all about.
