MoveOn.org blasted an email to its members today, urging them to call the White House immediately and demand a strong public option.
"Tell President Obama to stand with Senate Democrats and the American public to ensure the Senate bill includes a strong public health insurance option--not Senator Snowe's 'trigger,'" the email reads.
As TPMDC has reported today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has been pushing for a strong public option in the Senate version of the health care reform bill. But the White House has apparently been pushing back in favor for a trigger option, preferred by Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME).

For those confused by all the competing proposals, Nate Silver has a pretty good summary and he's lined them up in a grid. Pretty good article.

good link. Thanks.
I like that he redubs triangulation (or Clinton triangulation) the "Zone of Compromise".

So the rest of the time you agree with TPM, but when they report something you don't like, they're suddenly unreliable?
I would tend to trust Josh Marshall's editorial judgment on this.

I expected better than this from TPM. This isn't the Washington Post, where "anonymous sources" are allowed to take pot shots all the time. This isn't Politico where entire articles are premised around one sneak's petty grievances.

No No No Goddamn it. Beating up the White House will do NOTHING!!
Do NOT lose focus.
The SENATE is where the fight is. We MUST ride to the sound of the guns. And the rumble of the guns lead to the SENATE!!!!
We are being mis-directed on purpose.
To provide cover and space for Reid and the Moderate Democrats in the Senate.
Remember? Its the Economy Stupid?
Its the Senate!!! Stupid!!!

I do not see how placing a phone call prevents one from retaining a focus on the Senate.
If the White House is actually with us on health care phone calls will be taken as emboldening support for their plan, no?

It does not. But it could. What I'm saying is, BO is trying to mis-direct the progressive community away from the Senate and Reid, and get us to put it all on him.
And its not about him. As BO himself so appropriately put:
"This is not about me. Its about you."
We need to just focus on the SENATE; relative to the kind of HCR we all know we need.
I.E. if you have only the time to make ONE PHONE CALL, and only $10.00 to give, give those resources to putting pressure on the SENATE.
NOT BO.

I called my senators right away when I heard the 'trigger' come up again. The whole 'trigger' notion is an insult to our intelligence and as Speaker Pelosi put it 'an excuse for doing nothing.
If they put a trigger on the public option in the bill they better include a trigger on the mandate because we don't have to accept this mandate just because they are putting it in there. Acceptance of the mandate is our leverage to get the best public option in the final bill possible and it sure as hell won't be one with a 'trigger'.
No true public option = No Mandate!

I agree! The direction the White House has taken the past few days has been very concerning.
I have written an "Open Letter to the President from your Disappointed Supporters" that explains why a shift in direction is needed. It's at blog.poormanslobbyist.org.

America needs to move forward – one group continuously stands in the way. It’s time for MoveOn to Move Over! The group turned 11 this year, and has repeatedly been the source that drives American politics into the gutter. Stop embarrassing our nation, and move on. http://www.friendsoftheuschamber.com/moveover/
