In case Rep. Alan Grayson's own statements weren't clear enough, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has made it crystal: There will be no apology for his remarks on the House floor. Watch:

Grayson's fortitude in the face of GOP attacks and constant press attention have won great acclaim on the left. His campaign has raised over $100,000 in the past day alone.

Interesting to see the Speaker use terminology such as their entire sole purpose for existing (Destiny) is to pass a comprehensive health reform package.

I don't hear that sort of stuff from the Senate.

Why doesn't the House just plow through and pass a bill in the next 2 weeks and completely over shadow, and I dare say, nullify any significance of the circus that is the Senate Finance Committee?

Yeah I know the Senate will still have their own bill, but we need to get this train moving again. It's already October.

Good point. The House could go first. Go Nancy!

Well, the reason is that people who are skittish about voting for the bill don't want to go out on a limb if it might die in the Senate anyway. It's not a good reason, but it's a reason.

Politicians are only concerned about raising money for their reelection bid. When it comes to things like, you know, doing their job (drafting and voting for legislation), it becomes too politically risky. Our democratic republic is a farce.

I loved Grayson's apology to all the uninsured dead Americans. Do not back down. Go for the throat and pass a robust public option with no triggers and no apologies to the righties.

I'm not as high on Pelosi's comments here as a lot of folks, because intentionally or not, she implies that there's some moral equivalence between what Grayson has said/done and what Republicans have. There isn't. Grayson has said/done nothing for which he needs to apologize. The Republicans have done plenty. The situations are not remotely comparable from a moral standpoint, and it is a serial weakness of Democrats, who find themselves in this situation way more often than their timidness merits, that they continue to behave as if the two behaviors ARE comparable.
