The GOP may have lost a recent battle over President Obama on social politics, but a House Republican Leader today said he's not ready to let Democrats win the culture war.

Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), the leader of the GOP conference in the House, issued a fiery statement denouncing to Obama for signing a hate crimes bill into law today.

From the statement:

"It is deeply offensive to their service and to millions of Americans to pile so-called 'hate crimes' legislation onto a bill that authorizes critical resources for our troops. Hate crimes legislation is antithetical to the First Amendment, unnecessary and will have a chilling effect on religious freedom.

The president has used his position as commander in chief to advance a radical social agenda, when he should have used it to advance legislation that would unequivocally support our troops. We should remember why our soldiers put on the uniform, and honor their service by giving them the resources they need to get the job done, without unrelated liberal priorities attached."

So the GOP supports hate crimes as long as they are religiously motivated?

I figured as much, I just didn't expect them to come out and say it.

What a class act.

Evidently Mikey boy didn't listen to all of the Gospel in church the day the priest read about the woman accused of adultery...

Psst! Mike! Jesus told those cats to put their rocks down unless they were without sin themselves. Got it?

Republicans are a minority. He doesn't seem to be able to make enough of a connection that he'd be able to be an ally, though.

So if the Bible said that Blacks were inferior to Whites, is the GOP OK with that?

Weren't the Armed Forces one of the first American institutions to integrate? Haven't the service men and women of our Armed Forces given their lives for over a century to liberate minorities around the globe under the yolk of oppressive xenophobic regimes? Aren't we in a war right now, with men and women on the front lines, against an implacable intolerant foe who wants to strip other of any religious freedom?

What could be more American and in honor of our Armed Forces than to pair support for all the men and women fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq then hate-crimes legislation?

United States military personnel do not put on the uniform to help radical right wing religious groups oppress individuals and minority groups in the United States.

Religious hate groups SHOULD feel a STRONG chill in their attempts to demonize gay citizens and prevent gay citizens from participating in the public life of our democracy.

The truth is Mike Pence hates gays and wanted to keep the laws written in favor of the haters.

Fuck Mike Pence. Fascist BIgot Republican.

I think Lincoln in his position as Commander in Chief, emancipated slaves and was similarly criticized by the same sort of people as Pence.

Fitting that President Obama is carrying forward the legacy of the man who made his Presidency popular.

Religious freedom - what a putz! You can believe any offensive claptrap you want - you just can't act on it in a way that discriminates against gay folks. And I wonder how Mike Pence feels about his colleagues, John Kyl and Lindsay Graham?

Somebody, tell Mr. Pence that, that is the reason we voted for Obama. He's a radical, Marxist, Facists, Muslim who hates America and that's why we voted for him. Because all that sounds better than anything any REPUBLICAN could offer us. Enjoy the wilderness you IDIOTS! It's the party of Rapists Apologists!

This country was founded on the idea of freedom from oppression. This is what we fight for, time and again. We have never considered the liberty of murdering someone because we disagree with them a right that should be protected.

"We should remember why our soldiers put on the uniform, and honor their service by giving them the resources they need to get the job done, without unrelated liberal priorities attached."
Resources:
1. like Bush did when they ran out of armor to protect themselves
2. Bush tried to micromange the war and not enough troops were on the ground

Radially change:
1.You mean when like when Bush invented the Patriots Act
2. The constition was ignored?
3. He asked us to report any "suspicious" behaving neighbors?
Spare me Pence!!!

Obama campaigned on change. Did you expect him to continue every policy Bush mandated?

Is Mike still taking money from Blackwater and/or Erik Prince? What does he think about his fellow Indiana Republican, Steve Buyer's, charity golf scandal?

As a resident of Indiana, I officially apologize for and am embarrassed by this tool. Thank God he isn't my congressman. Hate crimes legislation infringes upon religious freedom? WTF?

It is becoming exceedingly difficult to make sense of anything these guys say.
"The president has used his position as commander in chief to advance a radical social agenda...." What? For signing a HATE crime bill? What part of HATE do you not understand?
