A new survey of North Carolina by Public Policy Polling (D) illustrates just how polarized people have become in terms of their politics -- and where they get their news.
President Obama's overall approval rating in North Carolina, state that he won narrowly, currently stands at 45% approval to 49% disapproval, according to this survey. The poll also asked: "When you watch cable news do you prefer CNN, Fox News, or MSNBC?" The answer was Fox 49%, CNN 31%, and MSNBC 13%, plus 7% who don't watch cable news.
Note that Obama's disapproval matches the percentage or respondents who watch Fox. Another way to look at it, from PPP: "Obama's NC approval with Fox News watchers: 18%. Approval with everyone else: 72%."
Now which came first: The chicken, or the egg?

In other news, water remains wet, the sky is still blue, and Lewis Black is right about the 2 party system.

These results are interesting. Perhaps we should follow up on this finding to determine whether this "Fox News" channel has a conservative slant.

and the poll should have asked "Fox 49%" whether they think Steven Colbert is a really a republican, an opportunity missed.

And don't forget the poll that came out about a year and a half ago (I think it was a Pew poll) that found that those who got their news from Fox were also the most likely to believe that Iraq had WMDs and that Saddam was linked with 9-11. Those least likely to believe these were NPR/PBS listeners/viewers. They didn't poll TPM readers though, I don't know what they were thinking. Maybe next time.

Here's the fascinating thing: almost 1 out of 5 Fox watchers -- 18% -- STILL approve of Obama.
I'm not sure exactly what the significance is, but there has to be something significant in that statistic. Despite Fox's 24/7 "everything Obama is bad, everything anti-Obama is good" over-the-top propoganda campaign, a full fifth of its audience STILL is glad that John McCain isn't the president.
I wonder, though, about that 18% that likes Obama but persists in watching Fox.

Liberals checking out propaganda from the other side in order to formulate their own refutations of the silly talking points? It's a nasty job, but somebody has to do it. And I salute them.

Seen at a tea party rally was a handmade sign showing the international NO symbol through the logos of all news organizations except Fox.

You would probably get similar numbers on church attendance patterns as well. The other question is how many of these Fox listeners also get an earful from Rush as well.
