Former Florida state House Speaker Marco Rubio, the insurgent conservative candidate in the Republican primary for Senate, has had a decent third fundraising quarter -- though he is still decidedly an underdog.
Rubio's campaign has announced raising nearly $1 million, a marked improvement from their mere $340,000 last quarter.
The frontrunner in the race, moderate Gov. Charlie Crist, has not yet announced his haul. The Tampa Bay Tribune says that his supporters are speculating about a figure of $2 million -- but also notes that the Crist camp seriously lowballed their estimates last quarter, when he raised over $4 million.

This could be interesting! Now, the portly Rovester has thrown his support behind Rubio. This seems unusual for Rovian politics but many have speculated on bad blood between Crist and the Bushies and I think that may be at work. His presence will lower the level of discourse, if that's even possible, and inflame more anger and attacks.
In any case, we have a widening Donnybrook between the forces of intolerant ignorance (Rubio) and what passes for Republican moderation in the 21st Century (Crist). I certainly hope, for the sake of Florida citizens, that Crist wins. Whether he does or not, though, the teabagger set will be outraged (their only emotional state, other than abject angst and victimhood). It's what they do. I hope this fight will continue to drive a stake through the broad divide in the Party of Tantrums.
Millions spent to smear Crist, their last and only hope for broader appeal, versus the inevitable push back against the fruit bat wing of the Florida Republican hordes. FLAME ON! Take no prisoners!
