Peter Schiff, a financial commentator and one of the many Republican Senate candidates seeking to oppose Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) in 2010, has an interesting analogy for his new pursuit of politics -- comparing it to a soldier going off to fight the Nazis in World War II.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Schiff explained how he was leaving his true career in the private sector to go into politics.
"I'm interrupting my career. It's not like I want my new career in politics," said Schiff. "But I'm willing to interrupt it the same way that somebody interrupted their career and joined World War II and went off to fight the Nazis. I don't think that I'm that heroic, and I don't think I'm risking as much as a soldier. But it's the same principle."

"It's not like I want my new career in politics."
THAT'S the real damaging quote, even more than the worn out Nazi shit.
Just run that quote in TV commercials ad infinitum.
Ambivalence about "wanting it" has killed every politician who was stupid enough to express it. (Adlai Stevenson, Romney, Muskie)

*Take time to read the article. It goes through the fact that Schiff is running because people encouraged him to run through emails, letters, and donations. He's taking time away from his career to do something he thinks is for the good of the country; unlike your average politician who's main goal is to get reelected.

The thing is, it's typical of the eliminationist mindset the Republicans have fallen into. They really don't think any party but them has the right to govern. To them, Democrats have no more right to govern the U.S. than the Nazis and must be responded to the say way. The irony being that that attitude underlies what disqualifes them as legitimate actors in a democracy.

Running against Chris Dodd = fighting against the Nazis.
And, it's not like he really wants to do that!
Um, I'd call that being a bit off-message.
And while CT voters returned Joe "With us on everything except some really important stuff" Lieberman to office, I do not think this kind of attempted fear-mongering is going to work.
But if it does, expect the Republican primary race to get interesting. And it will only benefit Dodd.

"I don't think that I'm that heroic, and I don't think I'm risking as much as a soldier. But it's the same principle."
No, he doesn't think, but at least he waited until the vast majority of WWII vets had passed away before comparing himself to them. Thankfully, my own grandmother is too old to read about this idiot putting himself in the same league with her four brothers who did go to fight the Nazis, and the one who didn't return.
Note to any vet who as served in a combat zone: Mr. Shiff conflates the personal jeopardy of his own political campaigning to your combat service.
To think this is the kind of candidate the Republicans are fielding.

The wingnuts certainly have an interesting self-image. Remember when the Keyboard Kommandos were bleating that they were just as important to fighting the war in Iraq as the troops being blown up in Baghdad?
Delusional morans, the lot.

Peter Schiff is a true American. This is the way our system should run. Politics should not be a career, we really need term-limits to be honest… Our representatives should be everyday people that work every day jobs, not people that have never work a REAL job in their lives (go straight from college to politics). How can we expect our representatives to represent us if they do not experience our experiences?
Peter Schiff is an economic realist that will hopefully bring back some financial sanity to our country.
Schiff for Senate!!

Right. This is exactly why we need everyday people like Joe the Plumber as our next President. In fact why don't Joe and Peter Schiff tag team? It will be a great combination! The financial commentator and the unlicensed plumber. One can talk about what a bunch of crap we're in and the other one can quote us a price for clearing it up, when he gets his license of course. In case you haven't figured it out, everyone thinks they can do better until they have to do it. Schiff wouldn't last a minute. And "fight the Nazis"???? - is he really going to take on his own party? Give me a break.

He is planning on taking on his own party, the Neo-Cons of Bush and company have destroyed the party by aligning themselves with the welfare and warfare loving Democrats.
Check him out on YouTube (search Peter Schiff was right is a good starting place), Peter is an honest man who is concerned with the direction our country is going and is willing to help, we need guys like him in office and not the guys who are only trying to help themselves IE Chris Dodd.

Peter Schiff is not a Republican, he is only running as a Republican because he knows (as we all do) that he does not have a chance as a 3rd party canidate.
And yes, that is what we need. We smart average citizen that are willing to step up and do what is right for our coutry instead of people that are just representing special interests and political agendas. If these politicians were not so worried about be re-elected, maybe they would not be so beholdened to the special interests groups and all their money. Term limits is the answer for this...

Peter Schiff is the type of guy needed to fix the current problems; he understands economics. First off, he doesn't support the wars, because the US can't afford them, and creating havoc economically. He never compared his courage to WWII soldiers, he just said that they were similar in that they were not career soldiers who actually left a occupation to fight in a war, because the war was just, like he isn't a career politician is going to be in politicians for the sake of being a politician, he finds needing to try to fix the economy from inside politics, and you are not going to find a more credible person on economic thought than Schiff himself. He is approaching politics as a economist. He is also criticized George W.Bush on many things. To say he is a typical republican, or even a politician is nonsense. I mean this guy always gets laughed at for being opposite on other's people's views on economics all the time in economic programs on TV, despite him being one of the most accurate on the economic crisis. Sorry to tell you democrats, but Obama isn't much any different from Bush. Infact Obama's policy are quite similar to Bush's economically, and foreign policy, heh, I don't see any significant changes in that department either. Peter Schiff is a classy guy. I support Schiff for senate.

Schiff NEVER compared himself to the WWII soldiers. All he said was that he planned on going in the senate to fix the problems and not to make a career as a politician. Unfortunately, so many people in our society can't even read (or don't bother to). Yeah, keep voting for Dodd and continue to screw-up this country.
It's too bad people don't even know the truth when it's written in black and white.

This is such a lame spin job. Totally taken out of context for a sensational effect. Anyone who actually takes 5 minutes to read the whole interview can tell that Schiff was making an entirely different point.
I read up on this guy and I think he's very interesting.
In the meantime I'm putting on my Eric Kleefeld on my blacklist. Along with this site for publishing such blatant propaganda.

Peter Schiff is not a REPUBLICAN! If you knew anything about him you would know that he is running as a republican because he wouldn't stand a chance as a 3rd party. You can't just listen to one quote he makes and blow it out of proportion because he used the word "Nazi". Did you read the rest of the article? Have you ever watched any of his videos on youtube? Maybe you should because you would then understand the fundamentals of all the problems we are facing. I suppose you think the economy is getting better too...

Wow, you got all of that from his analogy that was referring to the temporary nature of his stint in office? Seems like a stretch.
I also see a lot of comments about Democracy, the United States is a Republic always has been (just read the Constitution). In practice our government has ignored the Constitution, and it's up to guys like Peter to get into office and restore the Republic for the benefit of ALL Americans, not special interests like corporations or the poor.

Schiff not only predicted our financial crisis, but predicted why and how it would inevitably happen. He understands our economic problems and doesn't need the political support of special interests or lobbyists since he's not a career politician. But when it comes to politics, I guess that makes you a "wingnut loser."

The statement needs context.
He is referring to the fact that he has been drafted to go to dc. He would be leaving a life and career in the private sector, to serve his country.
This is not a reference to democrats being equal to the nazi regime. People familiar with schiff realize that he has, and continues to, openly criticized policy and not the party.
Personally, I am a liberal, but I am not affiliated with any party. I support schiff for senate because he understands how the economic and monetary policies of bush/obama will lead this country to ruin.

Dod is a bumbling idiot. The only Nazi people could compare him to would be Sergeant Schultz from Hogan's Hero's. Come to think of it , Schultez's line "Iknow nothing" fits Dodd perfectly
