House Republicans today launched a new "communications tool" that House Minority Whip Eric Cantor and Deputy Whip Kevin McCarthy say will help them distribute up-to-the-minute information.
The BlackBerry application is called WhipCast and it's designed to give "instantaneous alerts, audio updates, video features, and additional messages to users."
TPMDC has downloaded the app and it's an icon designed to look like a flag - a silver star on a blue circle over a red- and-white striped square.
Cantor (R-VA) issued this statement:
"Today's launch of the WhipCast BlackBerry app is the latest demonstration of our commitment to modernize the way we communicate with Americans from coast-to-coast. The WhipCast enables the Whip Team to communicate with the public in a faster, smarter, and more effective way."
McCarthy (R-CA) said:
"As easy as scrolling through a BlackBerry, Americans can now be connected to instantaneous news and videos. WhipCast is more than just the House Republicans gaining technological ground - it's a new and better way of communicating. It's been very useful for Members of the Whip Team, and we are excited to take this new BlackBerry application nationwide for all Americans to use."
Earlier this year I wrote about the Republicans finally getting hip to technology.
We'll let you know how it goes. Our guess is they are aiming for a better launch than GOP.com.

They have all the free time in the world for technology upgrades, for re-election activities and other clerical and ceremonial agendas.
Sadly, of course, they attend the house floor once a while in vote NO.
They don't spend time- read, write or get informed or any bill- or issue. So lots of time on hand.

Tomorrow the White House Press Corps will be breathlessly asking Gibbs if Obama has downloaded the app. That will be the number 1 story tomorrow (as far as the beltway media is concerned anyway).

Must say, I like the name. WhipCast has a nice ring to it. Look at this for what it is though...It's 1-way Twitter, tuned for Republicans only, that way they don't publicly embarrass themselves with ridiculous tweets again.

Of course, wouldn't you have to be interested enough to download the WhipCast App for them to reach you? At best, it's just going to be preaching to the choir? I don't plan to bother. Count me as not interested.

Another post-and-rail in the reality corral for Repub-Lick Party stalwarts.
TV? FOX
Radio? too numerous to mention
Paper? Moonie Times
Inet? Townhall, LGF, Freeper-rama
and now, Crackberry? WhipIt Good!
And they never have to leave the far-right fantasy of Cheneyland, and enter reality, where, as we all know, facts have a definite liberal bias

OK, maybe I'm weird, but I didn't think of politics when I heard the name 'WhipCast'. What is it with Republicans and the vague, unintentional double-entendres? First it was "teabagging", now this...

Ooh! So "hip" and "with it."
Sadly for them, more immediate means of communicating still doesn't change the core messages — or give them any substance, which they will all surely lack.

Somehow, Republicans making a blackberry app, a platform that had it's heyday three or four years ago, seems appropriate.
Meanwhile there was, of course, an Obama iPhone app over a year ago.

This new tool will no doubt make it much easier for Fox News to disseminate Republican talking points in a timely fashion.

When Malkin whips 'em out, they'll know it first via Whip Cast. Then we'll find out who the real minority whip is.

Give it a month before something stupid or racist gets sent out, republicans can never manage technology effectively
