DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) released this statement, making it clear that Democrats will use Republican condemnation of President Obama's Nobel Peace Prize as an issue of the GOP's basic patriotism:

"The outrageous reaction by Rush Limbaugh, RNC Chairman Michael Steele, and others to President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize is the latest sad example of Republicans putting politics before country by rooting for America to fail. House Republicans should immediately condemn these outrageous statements asserting that they are 'on the same side as the Taliban.'

"Rush Limbaugh and his Republican allies may, as Rush Limbaugh said, 'all agree with the Taliban and Iran,' but millions of Americans see the President's winning of the Nobel Peace Prize as an affirmation of our nation's values and it should be celebrated.

"Democrats and Republicans should join President Obama in seeing this award as a call to action against the common economic and security challenges we all share."

While I think it's ridiculous at this point to award the President the Nobel Peace Prize, I am also struck by:

1. When the US lost the 2016 Olympics last week, the GOP cheered.
2. When the US President wins a Nobel Prize this week, the GOP boos.

Do the Republican Party love America? I guess only when they are in charge.

No. They just love being in charge.

Bingo. There is more money to be made when Republicans are in charge. The Office of President is a very profitable place to have a business partner.

You are both right. The Republican conservatives measure everything in money and consider making money both the source of their morality (if it's profitable to me, it is right) and their rightful privilege because they are superior beings.

Money is their measuring stick, but they do consider themselves to be the only ones suited to be in charge, and they get really disturbed when the lower orders replace them.

When they are displaced and questioned they get very antsy, then they get angry and attack the ursurpers who have no right to be in charge. They have hated at an irrational level every Democratic President since FDR. They didn't like Eisenhower much either because he was neither a real conservative nor wealthy.

let's see: first there was joe wilson, showing his respect for the office of the presidency, and his "you lie" at president obama in a speech to a joint house of congress, then there were the gleeful gop faithful clapping because an american city, with the support of president obama, failed to win the 2016 olympics, and now those leading the gop (and regardless of what rush may say, he is the originator of the "we want you to fail," no-mongers, patriotically aligning themselves with the likes of hamas and the taliban; and chris is afraid the democrats and americans in general may question their patriotism?

the republicans have gone from birthers to deathers, to we want you to fail to you lie, to impeach obama. what's next, should God forbid we are attacked here on our nation's soil, the gop would cheer for the terrorist?
