Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) appeared on the Glenn Beck radio show today to promote her big protest event tomorrow -- in which she will bring "freedom fighters" directly into the halls of Congress to pressure members to vote against the Democrats' health care bill.

"This is really the 11th hour, when we're calling people to come to D.C. It's not inevitable that Speaker Pelosi's health care government takeover is going to pass," said Bachmann. "And that's why the number one thing people can do is actually come, see their member of Congress, look at them in the eyes -- especially with other freedom fighters in tow -- and let them know that the lessons of August they should not forget, at their peril."

She also said: "Don't bring your pitchforks -- bring your video cameras."

This will result in a few hundred goobers on the Capitol steps, being yelled to through a bullhorn by Bachmann and several other 'bagger Congresspeople. And of course, the liberal media will cover it like it's MLK in 1963.

Yep. Hopefully by now the Democrats realize that the August tea-baggers represented a very small but vocal minority of Americans...despite the media presenting them as otherwise.

Are even other Republicans going to appreciate this yahoo bringing a bunch of angry morons to the Capitol to accost them? She needs to be smacked down, and hard. Mocking and shame don't work when someone is so completely obtuse and amoral as this freak.

Apparently so. Eric Cantor has already giving it his blessing. And he is the Minority Whip for Pete's sake.

for which freedoms are they fighting, exactly?

the freedom to tell women what they can do with their bodies? the freedom to tell people who they can love?

seriously, which freedoms have they lost? which freedoms are they about to lose? i don't get it.

That's precisely the reason I believe it won't fly no matter how hard they try to monopolize the concept of "freedom." It's just too empty, there is nothing tangible, coherent or sabstantive about their use of the word. "Choice", maybe; some people might buy it if told their taxes would be reduced so they would have more "choice" re how to spend their money. But "freedom"???

Would love to do a little 'culture-jamming' by getting a few of my former Marine friends to join me in marching with pro-public option signs within their little 1 minute-hate stunt.

Right-wingers will continue to disguise their tribalism with fancy words as long as we let them. What Michelle Bachmann is doing is nothing more than trying to enforce a double-standard: when our side does it, no matter what it is, it's okay -- but when liberals do it, no matter what it is, let's attack it!

It's evil and she should be called out for her anti-American tribalism. If she doesn't want to be part of the UNITED States, she's free to get out!

What Dems need is a gathering of sane, normal, average people to provide a counterpoint to these whackjobs.

Extra hint to Blue Dogs: These nutjobs would never vote for you in a million years. If you care what they think, you are beyond dim.

Let me see... I've been into the halls of Congress before, and I know for a fact that each and every one of her little protesters will have to go through a metal detector before they can enter those halls. Wonder how long that will take?

Oh, wow, you know your British history well! I doubt that would have occurred to most of the rest of us. Good catch!

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up the King and Parli'ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring. (Holla)
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

Yep, sounds about right to me!

Of course, if the date really was deliberate, I'm betting that these guys aren't aware that Guy Fawkes Day celebrates the defeat of the attempted overthrow of the government. Then again, maybe they don't see themselves as the insurgents, in spite of Michelle's revolutionary rhetoric. Maybe they see themselves as the legitimate rulers and the 60-80% of the rest of the country who are not "pure conservatives" as the usurpers.

I think a counter protest is a must for this situation. If anyone is in the area and could get something together, it could be very symbolic. These frightwingers have been able to derail reform long enough. Just imagine if their hissy fits in August had never happened. I bet that bill would be on the President's desk. We have given them way too much power. We've laughed at them long enough. We've been saying since March this astroturf network would dissipate, but they just get louder and nuttier. And if or when reform finally passes, they will just latch on to the next thing. Now is the time to put them in their place. Plus, the GOP has bedded down with them enough to frame them in the '10 elections as radical, like Biden did in NY-23.

It is time to stand up, push back, and say enough is enough. I am also disappointed that there has not been more demonstrations on the pro-reform side. On the OFA website they have all these listening tour dates, but no BIG national showing. Think about how many Tea Party freakouts we've seen this year compared to the Pro-Reform rallies. They cannot be ignored any longer. We need something big to get the attention back on our side. Everyday we lose message, the more power they gain. The only freedom they are fighting is OURS!

I don't know. I tend to think the best counter protest would be to meet these nutjobs with absolute silence an no confrontation. I vote for a few people on the sidelines WITH VIDEO CAMERAS documenting 1) how few people really show up, 2) how crazy those who show up really are. They are really, really easy to bait into saying utterly foolish things if you ask them nicely about what they want, and then act sympathetic as the red light flashes and the tape rolls.
Journalists, pundits and bloggers I trust who are not subject to the village echo chamber all concluded that momentum for health care reform ultimately increased after all the coverage of the hostile wackos shot their wad in August.
What we don't need is an angry confrontation that allows them to claim persecution or for villagespeak to interpret it as equivalencies.

I guess we'll see if silence is the best counter protest. I agree plenty of documentary is a great thing. I just wish there was a bigger pro-reform movement. I'm just a little disappointed on that part. It makes them "appear" to be the majority. It just seems to make sense that if we marched and protested over the American deaths in the wars, then the 44,000 plus American deaths each year is just as much a tragedy. I'm just itching for a big rally on the HIll.

They want the cameras to portray that they are being "oppressed" by Capitol Police or by other Democrats. Fox News is already pushing that idea when Andrew Napolitano suggested it to Bachmann that Pelosi might try to order a "clampdown." Problem is, the Speaker has little to no say over the security measures of the Capitol but they'll push the lie anyway.

What's going to happen is that they'll try to manufacture a controversy. It's common etiquette to be quiet when traversing the halls of the Capitol in large groups - when these nattering nabobs noisily protest in the building, they'll be told by either security or a Congressional office to pipe down so people can get work done (it is an office complex after all). They'll try to spin this as "oppression" in order to "silence" debate. Same goes for when they enter Congressional offices. Some poor staffer will try to calmly tell them that the respective Representative/Senator only sees constituents and they'll claim it's a politician "avoiding" the masses. Honestly, if this gets too out of hand I can see Bachmann and GOP leadership getting reprimanded for this, if not by Dem leadership than by the Seargent-at-Arms for being so disruptive.

Seriously, between this and the CAIR intern witch hunt and all the other crap the House GOP is doing I'm glad I'm not I don't work on the Hill anymore. They're not paid nearly enough to put up with this kind of crap.

There is a very interesting article on Think Progress about the corporate astruturfing giving free bus rides from many states tomorrow. That's the problem, this is not some random fruitcakes, this is a well-oiled propaganda machine. They just use idiots as cover. I have a feeling tomorrow could be very interesting.

On the other hand, I don't think we should get just as crazy as they do if we ever rally. I don't even know if that would be possible. I suggest something like a memorial for the thousands dead. I think it would be very symbolic to have 44,000 lying on the Capitol lawn. That would say thousand times more than any chant or Hitler sign by a teabagger.

Here's that Think Progress article

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/11/04/king-astroturf-paulrevere/

Rep. Weiner is also asking reform supporters to go to www.countdowntohealthcare.com but I can't seem to get it go through. He just announced this on Countdown tonight.
