Gov. Charlie Crist may have the backing of the national GOP establishment in the Florida Republican senate primary, but the man who personally represents Crist in Washington isn't ready to add his name to the list of Republicans who say he'd make a better candidate than Marco Rubio.

Rep. C.W. "Bill" Young represents Crist's home district in Pinellas County, near Tampa Bay. When the St. Petersburg Times caught up with him at a Rubio speech yesterday, he stayed mum on the GOP civil war that's grabbing headlines across the country.

From the paper's report of the event:

[Young] said he steers clear of primary endorsements (though he endorsd Bill McCollum [R] for governor) even in cases like this where a hometown guy is running.

Young's wife, Beverley, was less coy than her husband about the primary. From the Times:

"I love Marco,'' she gushed.

"She's not endorsing either," said the congressman, ushering her away.

"I love Marco,'' she repeated before disappearing out the door.

Young: "What's that Charlie? Your boat's starting to take on water? Here's an anchor for ya."

Hmmm. Maybe these moderate (ex)GOPers can start a party of their own since they're being shown the door out of the country club.

I would support this wholeheartedly. I wouldn' give them any money... And I probably wouldn't volunteer for any of their candidates. And I wouldn't put a bumper sticker on my car or a sign on my lawn, either. Actually, I can't think of any real material way that I would assist a moderate formerly Republican politician get elected... But if they want to expand the color palette so that the major political parties include Democrats, Moderate Republicans, and Wingnut Lunatic Teabaggers, I say go for it!

Great picture of Crist. It captures that hurt look of betrayal perfectly. His wife probably gets that look a lot, whenever she tells Charlie that he's not allowed to go out and party with the "boys" until he performs his husbandly duties with her, as stipulated in their prenuptial agreement.

seems to me the dems should start taking advantage of that old adage "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
