Chris Christie could soon be facing legal action from some very illustrious people: Monty Python.
This comes after the Christie campaign used footage of a sketch from Monty Python's Flying Circus, without having sought permission, for a Web video. The video has since been taken down, but was preserved by Monty Python and given to the Huffington Post.
Monty Python's Terry Jones, perhaps best known for his screechy-voiced female characters (especially Brian's mother Mandy in Life of Brian), told the HuffPo that the group is strongly considering a lawsuit for copyright infringement.
"It is totally outrageous that a former US Attorney knows so little about the law that he thinks he can rip off people," said Jones. "On the other hand -- another of Bush's legal appointees was Alberto Gonzales and he didn't seem to know much about the law either."

Republicans using intellectual property without permission, and from those who would never grant such usage at any price, no less. Who could imagine?

Somehow, the words intellectual and Republican seem to form an automatic oxymoron in my mind.

Hey, if the Republicans are good at anything, it's cognitive dissonance!

I think it's a HUGE mistake to mention Christie's LARGESS, insofar as it detracts from discussing WEIGHTIER issues, such as the SIZE of the state budget and the GIGANTIC deficits that New Jersey residents will be CRUSHED by in years to come.

I knew I'd seen the teabaggers before, and this post reminded me - the Pythons named them "Gumbies".

Hey, Gumbies had frontal lobotomies while the Teabaggers were born that way!

They managed to make Monty Python unfunny. This is what they should be sued for. I also thought this would be like one of those DMCA takedown notices, i.e. rather frivolous, but they actually lifted the sketch wholesale and just put some subtitles over it.

they say it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission; but certainly may prove to be more expensive.

If you watch the ad, it mentions something about Corzine trying to ram something down people's throats. What is it with Republicans and their obsession with gay sex acts?

If I recall John Cleese has a legal education in the U.K. Once again the Republicans seem to show their ignorance of copyright law. (among other things).

Somewhat unrelated topic, but one I'd really like some informed input on. There is some chatter going around (mostly on 101.5, they've been pumping this story all day) that the Dagget camp put out a robo call blasting Cristie to try and get independents and repubs to vote Dagget, but the robo call was funded by the Dems of Jersey, basically making Dagget look like a Corzine plant. I'm pulling for Corzine here (my job probably depends on it) but this just looks bad. Any thoughts?

I'm loving the giant white fonts that they use for CHANGE GOVERNORS toward the end. It was very LOL Catz. I expected the next lines to be I CAN HAZ CHEEZEBURGER! I wonder if they're paying a "social media expert" to come up with this crap. Maybe Michael Goldfard is on the loose again.

What kind of idiot messes with Monty Python? Those guys are smarter than any politician. If NJ votes for this clown they will regret it in 6 months or less.
