Politico snagged an email from the RNC Republican Study Committee last night revealing that the GOP caucus in Congress will be joining Rep. Michele Bachmann's (R-MN) Tea Party event on Capitol Hill today.
RNCRepublican Study Committee communications director Brendan Buck sent the email, which tells GOP congressional aides to expect somewhere between 1,000 and 10,000 health care reform protesters today. Buck also calls on the aides to send their members to the Capitol Steps for the event hosted by Michele Bachmann at noon. But Buck offered a word of warning about the gathering of speakers and protesters, too.
"PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR BOSS DOES NOT TERM THIS EVENT A 'RALLY," Buck wrote.
Editor's Note: This post has been revised since it was first published.
More from the email:
Please know that this is a 'press event,' 'press conference,' or 'House Call on Washington' but not a 'rally' or 'protest.'
Buck offered more details on GOP participation in the "press event" today:
Members will gather at 11:50 in the basement of the Capitol, downstairs from the Crypt, so that they can walk together down the West front steps on the House side. Members will begin to walk down just prior to noon. There will be a stage at the bottom of the steps. Some members may stand on the stage, while the rest will fill in on the steps. We hope to have as many members as possible for a strong visual. There will be press and cameras just in front of the stage, and beyond them will be a good size crowd gathered on the Southwest lawn of the Capitol grounds. The event will begin with a prayer and the national anthem.

Packin heat? Ask Bachmann. She bragged in a campaign flier once that she was a "concealed-carry" permit holder. Many of us have often wondered when and where Bachmann carries a gun but no one in the media has ever had the balls to ask her.

Would you please find another picture of this nut? I mean, yeah, it gets her in all her smoker-pucker glory, but it reminds me of the of Bobby Dall on the cover of Poison's "Look what the cat dragged in", and I really don't like being reminded that I listened to that crap.

There used to be some moral, common sense line not to cross, regardless of your political party affiliations. But what's clear now is there are a LOT in the Republican Party (though I don't see that group as a real political party anymore) who have no line whatsoever. This is, seriously, scary. So much so I don't feel like laughing or mocking anymore.

"Buck also calls on the aides to send their members to the Capitol Steps for the event hosted by Michele Bachmann at noon."
Doesn't this mean that this woman is being look upon as a LEADER in the republican party?
Sorry, it just makes me pause.

My feeling exactly. I consider this as the Republican Party's event now, not Bachmann's. They not only don't even try to distance themselves from her, they actively endorse it, encouraging members to join. Meaning they openly declare insanity is what defines their party now, no matter what they call the event.

I think she's gunning for VP for 2012.
Don't underestimate Michele. To us, she's a fruitcake. But she knows how to speak to teh crazy and the scared.
There are a lot of people out there who are frightened - the bottom's fallen out from their world. They see that they won't do as well as their parents, and their children won't do as well as they. Simple solutions - blaming others, it's the fault of the gays, the immigrants, the bankers, the liberals etc. - are easy, and she's mastered the art.

But remember, the teabaggers are "non-partisan" - just ask them! The fact that they continuously appear with GOP reps and on Faux News means NOTHING! Just like their frequent long trips to the airport bathroom...

And Fox News production staff will be on hand to orchestrate it all. Make-up, lights, cues, etc. will give it the best presentation on Fox News Live that the GOP propaganda team can possibly provide.
And it still won't mean jack shit.

Don't worry, cannibals in her entourage along with her snake handlers and Jeezbus Phreaques will certainly keep her on track and on topic. But I keep hearing of the floor show including the Bush Brothers, Lint Balls, Beck's Beak and the entire Phoques Staff and The Fundie Circus... Something about Tea Bagging Contests and Moustashe Rides... Should really be a bang up good time... Gideon Publishing will be handing out Free Bibbles to the muslims and other unwashed/unclean (you know who you are)

Please know that this is a 'press event,' 'press conference,' or 'House Call on Washington' but not a 'rally' or 'protest.'
I think this is not a case of "message conflict," but an attempt to have it both ways. The politicians get to have a press event and the rabble they depend on get to have their protest. Bread and circuses by any other name.
