Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) was able to raise a half-million dollars in his "money-bomb" fundraiser -- a single day of massive online donations -- a solid amount that ought to go a long way towards him fighting out his 2010 campaign, in which the Republicans have had trouble recruiting a big-name candidate to oppose the fiery left-winger.

According to Grayson's official page for the fundraiser, he has taken in $507,125.

Let's compare that to another recent money-bomb, by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), who urged her supporters to "send the left a message." In her case, Bachmann only took in about $100,000.

Grayson had a definite public-relations strategy for his money drive, having spent about two weeks promoting the scheduled fundraiser in his TV appearances and other venues, and he built up pledges that could be quickly collected in the morning. Bachmann did not have any similar pledge operation, and as a result Grayson outdid her by a five-to-one ratio.

Give em HELL! He is a voice(alone) to bring the moral question of health care reform to the surface. I say keep it up as you bring Hope to the forefront of the political scene in Washington!

It's no coincidence that 1:5 = 20%, the actual number of people who support the teabagging movement.

I am dismayed that Grayson was forced to apologize for calling a lobbyist a whore.

Lobbyists ARE whores. It is not an issue of fake feminists affronted. Lobbyists define whoredom, regardless of the individual lobbyist's gender, and have made a made a mockery of our democratic process.

Or as Fielding Mellish put it: "A travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham."

To compare his rhetoric to rhetoric on the right is inaccurate.

Alan Grayson is beyond real mensch. He's a real MAN. Although given how ferociously he went after the military contractors, I worry for his safety.

The lobbyist was a woman and if he wants to get re-elected he had to make it clear what he was saying and apologize. There are a lot of voters who do not understand political language, the GOP knows and will twist it to make it seem as though Grayson is sexist.

I respectfully disagree - if everyone were more blunt about the role of lobbyists, voters would welcome it.

I say that having put in my fair share of time serving military communities - which represent a multicultural force that is in many ways open to an expanded role for government (given that it would be a big stick against the banks and corporations that have screwed them.)

They wouldn't have a problem with lobbyists being called whores. Neither do I. And in the large spectrum between us, there are likely a lot of other people who welcome Grayson's refreshingly open discussion of what a lobbyist really is.

Further, Grayson's comment was not, to my XX-chromosomed mind and the minds of my similarly XX-chromosomed friends and neighbors, any case of "sexism." It was a breath of fresh air.

BTW, is that a lobbyist having their genderless lips painted in the picture under your name? The lower part of the face pictured resembles the lobbyist who has assured us that she did NOT have sex that was graphically and openly described by that SoCal politician.

Grayson was right.

I seriously doubt Grayson out-raising Bachmann five to one had much to do with his advance pledge strategy.

It's the politics, stupid.
