Obama And Hu Vow Cooperation, But Produce Few Deals
At their press appearance today, President Obama and Chinese President Hut Jintao promised greater cooperation between the two countries on issues such as climate change and nuclear disarmament. During their appearance, however, Hu pointedly called on Obama to reject protectionism -- the U.S. recently imposed tariffs on Chinese-made tires and steel pipes -- and Obama called on China to relax controls that keep their currency artificially weak on the world market.

Obama's Day In China
President Obama participated in a welcome ceremony in Beijing at 9:45 a.m. local time (8:45 p.m. ET last night). He held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao at 10 a.m., and an expanded meeting at 10:45 a.m. They made joint press statements at 12:15 p.m. Obama toured the Forbidden City at 1:20 p.m. He met with U.S. Embassy employees and their families at 2:55 p.m. He held a bilateral meeting with Chairman Wu Bangguo at 5:55 p.m., and attended a state dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Biden's Day Ahead: The Daily Show
Vice President Biden will meet this morning with senior staff in Washington. Later, he will travel to New York City, to appear on The Daily Show. In the evening, he will return to Washington.

Poll: Americans Want KSM Tried In Military Court, In The United States
A new CNN poll finds mixed results on President Obama's plan to give Khalid Sheikh Mohammed a civilian trial in the United States. The poll finds 64% of Americans disagreeing with giving him a civilian trial, saying it should be in a military court. On the other hand, 60% also said that Mohammed should be tried in the United States, as opposed to an overseas U.S. facility or in another country.

Lincoln Feels Pressure From Both Sides On Health Care
The Washington Post profiles Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), finding a Senate centrist who faces pressure from both sides on health care. "In some ways, there's not a good vote on this," said her co-Senator Mark Pryor, a relatively conservative Democrat. "You're going to have detractors on either side, no matter what you do. So I think in the end you have to what you think is right. And I think that's what we're all going to have to do."

McCain: Palin Legal Bill Was For Troopergate
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is denying an allegation from Sarah Palin that his campaign had given her a $50,000 bill for her vetting, saying the costs had in fact come from the troopergate investigation against her in Alaska. "That was addressed by [McCain general counsel] Trevor Potter. That was over the troopergate," said McCain, who also added that he enjoyed the book: "I hope she sells lots of them."

Palin: 'I Will Forever Question' McCain Campaign Not Attacking Obama Over Jeremiah Wright
In her new book Going Rogue, Sarah Palin criticizes the McCain campaign for not attacking Barack Obama over his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. "I was told not to discuss Obama's pastor of twenty years, Jeremiah 'God Damn America' Wright," Palin writes. "I will forever question the campaign for prohibiting discussion of such associations. All the more since these telltale signs of Obama's views, carefully concealed with centrist campaign-speak, have now been brought into light by his appointments and actions in office."

I'm glad President McCain likes books! My favorite book is all of them! And whoever said he sent me a bill is a dummy! He didn't send me a bill! He picked me to be the President's wife! Why would he send his wife a bill! I'm glad President McCain picked me to be the President's wife instead of that little hoochymama Bristol! It's because I'm prettier than her! Yay!

The problem is that what too many senators think is right is whatever their largest campaign contributors tell them to do.

McCain didn't need to talk about Rev. Wright, the rightwing hatemongers were on it 24/7. McCain is an old-school Repug who prefers to let others spread the slime while he stands above the fray. Palin is new-school, preferring to drench herself in the slime.
