President Obama spent nearly two hours this afternoon meeting privately with soldiers and their families at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

While there, he awarded two Purple Hearts, the White House said.

No press was allowed to witness the visit, but an administration staffer told the pool which accompanies the president when he leaves the White House that Obama "visited with 19 soldiers, three families of soldiers in the ICU, as well as hospital staff."

May be its just me, but the title is a little confusing. May be it should be "Obama awards two...."

I know he's shown a lot more respect for our soldiers than the Bush regime did in 8 years.

5 years ago conservative nutbags would have given them purple band-aids and told them to suck it up and get back out there.

Christina: I'm surprised veterans and military folks have not pointed out the inappropriateness of the word "awards."

Medals are not "awarded." Medals are presented. Members of the military do not "win" medals, they earn them.

I know "award" is used constantly in reference to military medals, but it's disrespectful when used as a verb. Different, of course, when "award" is part of the name of the medal.
