The absentee ballot count is nearly completed in the NY-23 special election, with the new Democratic Rep. Bill Owens on track to gain votes in the process.
With only 813 ballots left to be counted, the Watertown Daily Times has Owens ahead by 3,398 votes over Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman, with an Owens lead of 253 votes within the absentees themselves.
The early absentee figures had given a mistaken impression of Hoffman gaining, because they had come mainly from counties that Hoffman carried on election day. The remaining ballots are more than not from pro-Owens counties, so he could potentially expand his lead a little bit further.
Owens was sworn in two weeks ago, after Hoffman had conceded the election. The correction of routine clerical errors, however, narrowed Owens' margin from 5,000 votes to about 3,000, leading Hoffman to take back his concession. Wednesday night, Hoffman charged that the election was stolen: "ACORN, the unions and Democratic Party were scared, and that's why they tampered with the ballots of voters in NY-23."

In other news, Mr. Hoffman has reinserted his anal plug, thereby allowing the truthiness factor of NY-23 to regain it's normal level. Film at 11.

I think it's perfectly obvious what's going on here. ACORN created an invisibility ray and is sending unseen operatives into election bureaus. There, they swap out Hoffman absentee ballots for Owens. Lest election officials catch on to their shenanigans, they then escape using an inter-dimensional travel device developed by their UNION THUG and MARXIST buddies.

Yes, the election was stolen from people who can't add. Add Dede Scazzafava's votes to Hoffmann's votes, and you have a Republican leading Owens by 3,000 votes.
Clearly, the 11 Republican Party county chairs knew more about what wins in NY-23 than Conservatives.
To the Conservatices it does feel better to believe all the oak trees in the district dropped acorns into the voting booths to steal the election. Otherwise they'd have to admit they made a mistake when they nominated Hoffmann instead of cross endorsing Ms. Scazzafava.
Fortunately for Democrats, conservative party leaders who don't acknowledge they made mistakes are likely to repeat them again and again. Might result in even more Democrats in Congress after the 2010 election.

Watching Hoffman concede/unconcede/reconcede/reunconcede, and then send out his conspiracy theory fundraising e-mail, plus the bits of interviews I heard, I think I see a flaw in the conservatives' strategy: don't pick a candidate who is a doofus.

Don't worry, Mr. CrazyHoffman, the taxpayers will continue to pay for unnecessarily prolonged election procedures until you're satisfied.

NY-23 has been interesting in that it offers a tight, encapsulated view of certain wingnut attitudes:
1.) Evidence? The wingnuts don't need no stinkin' evidence!
2.) The wingnuts' enemies are stupid and crazy and yet, somehow, surprisingly effective at nefariously engineering whatever setbacks the wingnuts might encounter.
3.) A win for Hoffman is a win for wingnuts. And a loss for Hoffman is a win for wingnuts, because Erick Erickson over there at RedState said so with a straight face! And then he did a series of backflips yelling "Woohoo! Woohoo! Woohoo!" like Daffy Duck! Cool dude!
4.) It's fun to be a wingnut. Woohoo! Woohoo! Woohoo!

I thought he said ACORN, the unicorns and Obama at first.
The claim would still be as credible as it is now.

What a whiny, prissy little bitch Hoffman is.
Can you imagine having that for a father - or a husband.
God, his family must be mortified.

I object to what Gaylthaca wrote because I don't think candidates (presumably mute) families should be brought up. Vide: from terms of use, "invasive of another's privacy," restriction.
