A new ABC/Washington Post poll finds that Americans still do not like Sarah Palin, who is kicking off her Going Rogue book tour with a taped interview airing today on the Oprah Winfrey show.

The poll finds that a majority of Americans, 52% of respondents, have an unfavorable opinion of her, compared to only 43% favorable.

In addition, respondents were asked this question: "Regardless of whether or not you'd vote for her, do you think Palin is or is not qualified to serve as president?" The numbers: qualified 38%, not qualified 60%.

In addition, 53% say they would definitely not vote for her. Only 9% would definitely vote for her, and 37% would consider it (those people are likely Republicans and GOP-leaners who want to see all the options).

This is no surprise. A couple of days ago a poll showed Pawlenty would lose in Minnesota if he ran. The truth is the Republican far right wing flakes are destroying the party of Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.

It's true! And not a single Republican will stand up to them to save their party. LOL, ship of fools.

Next meme we need to adopt... "How can you trust Republicans to stand up to terrorists when the won't even stand up to Grover Norquist/Rush Limbaugh/Glenn Beck/etc..."

It is a little surprising to see 43% favorable and 60% unqualified on two different questions. That means at least 3% of respondents and probably more both like her and know she shouldn't ever be president.

i think it would be much easier to like her than to think she is qualified for president.

That's a good point. Another bit of Venn Diagram oddness is 60% not qualified meets 53% absolutely wouldn't vote for her. That means at least 7% who think she isn't qualified aren't ruling out voting for her.

I know literacy tests have an awful history, but could we make a logic test as a pre-requisite for voting? I know the GOP would howl and throw feces, but they do that anyway, don't they?

Pfeh, I know a lot of people whom I like but think are not qualified to be President. It happens that many of them are Conservative, too.

Of course, they might say the same thing about me.

Let's think this through. She gets 38% saying she's qualified 38%, and 60% says not qualified, thus 2% are undecided. But a total of 46% would either vote for her or consider it.

That means at least 6% thinks she's unqualified, but might vote for her anyway. Considering the impact that 6% could have in a close election, is it any wonder smart people go crazy trying to understand the outcome.

Halperin has a post up about this poll. It probably shocked him given that he puts at least one post a day up about Palin. Dude makes a headline for her everytime she puts some comment on her FaceBook page. Maybe this poll - following many others that show similar numbers for Palin - will wake Halperin up to the fact that a) most people don't like Palin and b) many more think she's completely unqualified to be president.

I think there is an assumption definitely on the right but also in the media that Palin drives liberals crazy and that liberals are afraid of her. The reality is that Palin makes liberals laugh and we'd like nothing more than for her to be the 2012 nominee.

And, of course, the fact that wingnuts think Palin both scares liberals and drives them batty is the biggest reason they love her. Qualifications, schmalifications. Brains, schmains. She drives those liberals crazy so we love her. Way to choose a "leader", morons.

Of course, the neo-cons love her because she is unqualified and not that bright/informed. They see an empty vessel that they can use to achieve their goals of going to war with everybody. Bill Kristol doesn't think Palin is an intellectual giant and one of the political greats - he thinks he can convince her to invade Iran if she ever became president.

I would agree that, inside the Beltway, this is the conventional wisdom. Outside the Beltway? You only need to look at Bob McDonnell in Virginia for a glimpse of reality. Outside the Beltway, politicians know that Palin isn't liked by most people, and, isn't an asset.

Actually they have to do very little PR. Last evening on the NBC Sunday evening news, Lester Holt actually held up a copy of the book "that everyone is talking about". I did not realize until last evening that Holt had sold out to Palin along with David Gregory.

The corporate media can't tell what's accurate, but they do notice what's rude. Since it's rude to mention how stupid a person is, Palin gets a free ride. Same as Bush Lite.

Exactly how I feel. But then again, I think that if Americans were faced with the same situations that 1930s Germans faced, I am not at all sure that they wouldn't go in the same direction. That's one of the reasons why I fear the failures of Obama and the Democrats to really address the pillaging of our society by corporations and the wealthy could lead us to some very dark places. We need a FDR now and what we seem to be getting is warmed over DLCism.

Palin isn't going to run for the Presidency any time soon - she's just cashing in using the possibility to keep the MSM interested in her. She just wants to remain politically relevant, keep her fanbase and keep cashing in. She quit being Gov because it was too hard and she couldn't make any money doing it and her 15 minutes might have been up if she stayed her full term. She was a favorite because she bought off Alaskans, and that money was gone and the tough decisions were coming due. She knew if she stuck around and made the decisions that she'd be seen much less favorable in a years time and that would hurt her post-Governor earning power.

There is no way she'd survive a GOP primary campaign. She figures she can turn her conservative rockstar gig into a million bucks a year job. She doesn't have to do nothing except throw red meat bombs from the outside and give ten speeches a year. When her fifteen minutes runs out she'll "retire" back to Alaska with her millions and probably get elected to the Senate.

I think the book should be retitled Going to the Bank. Come to think of it, the title might fit a lot of bankers too, especially the ones on Wall Street.

"compared to only 43% favorable" -- That's not America not liking Palin, that's America almost at a draw in our view(s) of her. And that's frightening! 43% is almost HALF, a number that should be much lower! If those 43% of would just see her with some thought behind their consideration and pay attention to the inconsistencies and outright lies in her celebrity ... If only!
