The new Quinnipiac poll of the New Jersey gubernatorial races gives Republican nominee Chris Christie a slim lead over Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine -- a late Christie surge, after Quinnipiac last poll had put Corzine ahead.

The numbers: Christie 42%, Corzine 40%, and independent Chris Daggett 12%, with a ±2.5% margin of error. In the previous poll from last week, Corzine had 43%, Christie 38%, and Daggett 13%.

The pollster's analysis says that as of right now, Daggett is taking more votes away from Corzine than he is from Christie: "Daggett is the key to an incredibly close New Jersey election."

Personally, I wouldn't bet against Corzine on election day.

I live in jersey.

Judging by my phone (robo) calls I say corzine is in bad shape.

Will enough people change their minds inside the voting booth to bring a victory to him?

My feeling right now is corzine losses because of the taxes and his cutting of the tax rebate.

The middle class are willing to take a chance with someone else .

Even christie who is not well liked.

Politicians and the media are underestimating the anger and fear sweeping over the country.

People are desperate to change the status quo because government has failed them at every level.

Its going to get worse as the economy wont be rebounding and the incumbent democrats stand to lose big time.

I see a political bloodbath coming with ironically only the far right wingers safe in office, since their supporters all agree its the rest of the country that is out of step.

Fasten your seat belts!

yes, let's go right back to all the idiots who spent the last eight years getting us into this mess. If you and other voters really are that forgetful and stupid, then you deserve what you get--especially wrt Christie, the best representative of Bush era corruption, incompetence, and failure you could find.

Government only fails at every level when it's run by Republicans and wingnuts. It's been proven time after time.
But we'll always have concern trolls who swallow the spin and give them another shot. Thanks.

"Politicians and the media are underestimating the anger and fear sweeping over the country."

That's hardly a prediction. That's your opinion. We saw anger and fear, but it came in the form of a very small group of Teabaggers. Most of the country is still pretty rational and realizes that those who brought us this mess are the very ones you think will save us. I happen to believe people people don't suffer from the same selective memory you do. But, we are both entitled to our opinion.

no Jade, it was a typical litany of rightwing talking points. You're fooling no one but yourself, but nice try.

You deserve an incompetent corrupt scumbag Rove disciple like Christie as your leader, although you might not get what you so obviously wish for--glad I don't live in Jersey!

Wow, that is some statement. I believe people across the country may be angry, but I doubt they are going to vote the people back in who caused this mess. I still betting on Corzine. These are the same pollsters who said McCain was leading Obama

Which is bizarre but not unexpected. Florio got destroyed because he had to clean up the mess caused by the Reagan/Kean economic policies. He was followed by Whitman, who delivered on her 15% tax cut over 3 years, which sold well because who doesn't like a tax cut but made things even worse. And while McGreevey did some good, who knows what kind of shady stuff he was pulling. (let's face it - the guy didn't resign because he was gay....everybody in Trenton knew he was gay and didn't care)

That said, I think Corzine - being independently (very) wealthy with really no higher to go politically (he was already Senator and the guy is not president material) - had a real opportunity to take on the special interests and he just didn't do it enough. I don't think Christie will either - and I dont't think most New Jerseyans thing he will. But there were high hopes for Corzine on that front particularly because his wealth was seen as freeing up from being held captive by these special interests. He didn't deliver enough and he's paying for it now.

I don't think Obama coming to NJ is helping, it may be hurting as Corzine slips in the newest polls. Why? I think it is because Obama is looking more and more like a reglar politician, helping the wealthy and special interests and screw the people, that doesn't help a walls street insider. I'm a dissappointed liberal, we're getting hosed on health care, thanks to Obama, Wall Street regulation will be a joke, thanks to Obama, Smart voters (liberals) realize this isn't change at all. Obama is the symbol as same as usual politics. nothing changes and both parties aren't that far apart.

How is Obama hosing us on health care reform? Congress wrote the bills and because of the way the Senate is run 60 votes are needed to prevent a filibuster (I am all for reconcilation or for making these GOP Senators stand up and talk for days on end, even through Christmas and beyond, but that will be up to Harry Reid to decide). I am sure you'd like single payer, as would many people. But, if the Public Option can't get 60 votes how does single payer? It comes down to actually passing a bill, and since the GOP is going to vote no regardless of what the bill includes, it is up to the dems to come up with something that they can all vote on. There are no votes to spare. That's just reality, and blaming it on Obama is ridiculous. Perhaps he actually counts votes better than Reid does, and he has a better guage of what can actually make it through.

my vote is for Corzine, nonetheless turnout will be a problem for corzine and my point above is Obama isn't helping turnout. Dems will vote but independents are going back to the GOP or uninterested because Obama can't deliver the change message anymore. Some more examples to add to the ones above. The WH is against Frankens anti-rape clause, they are against procesuting torturers, bipartisn BS lessened the stimulus, the healthcare bill will be a shell of what it should've been because of three months of bipartisan BS set up by BO and Max Baucus. I'm telling you that people didn't want any of this crap but we're getting it. The Middle class isn't coming out for BO. Lets prove my point, Christe and McDonnell have either remained the same or gotten better since BO started campaigning for them. He's being identified as a weak pol and I don't think it's because of the GOP attacks, it's his own innefficiencies so far. A total lack of management skills in my opinion. Most of Daggets votes will come from disenfranchised dems, no doubt in my mind. they're that way because nothing has changed. Oh, and how about gay people getting the shaft. If he ran on it he should do it not make up excuses about why he can't. He's a pu$$y as a leader. There I said it.

I hope the Dem-minded voters still intent on voting for Daggett change their minds when they get in the booth. If that happens, Corzine will win this one by a narrow margin - the Dem GOTV is very good in the Garden State. Sadly, my parents are intent of voting for Daggett even though they pretty much despise Corzine and are basically liberals. They're calling it a protest vote...they think Corzine is a nice guy and they agree with him on just about every issue, but they don't think he took on the special interests enough...they think he's too nice of a guy for the state. I told them that voting for Daggett could throw the race to Corzine...they don't care.

That said, the Dems - at least in my area (pretty blue) - appear to be doing a pretty good job of trying to get folks out. They were canvassing the neighborhoods this weekend and there are multiplate full sized billboards in the area with the tagline, "Keep It Going", and Obama front-and-center. Dem mailers have definitely exceed GOP mailings, although we did recently get two mailing from the god squad, informing us that Corzine wants to kill babies and turn our kids gay. (a strange strategy in NJ and especially in my town, where voters tend to be more Dem than GOP and where we have a rather large gay community...but then my wife's maiden name is Irish and both were addressed to her)

"I'm a dissappointed liberal, we're getting hosed on health care, thanks to Obama, Wall Street regulation will be a joke, thanks to Obama, Smart voters (liberals) realize this isn't change at all."

So the solution is to vote back in the conservatives who caused or exacerbated all the problems that we're dealing with?

Americans get the government they deserve. Look at CA, douchbag. They voted in a Republican because of a raise in auto title fees. Now their economy is in complete shambles. But at least they don't pay as much to get their vehicle titles registered.

Exactly. By that logic, Daggett should be running away with the race since New Jerseyans a) blame Corzine for the state's mess and b) hate the Republicans.

As an NJ resident, I can tell you that Christie is probably going to get 60% or more of the white guy vote. He has that look that appeals to the white guys in the Garden State - a law and order background and he looks like a dude you'd tailgate with at the Giants game on Sunday. The stuff Corzine focused on definitely hurt Christie with women voters and the Obama visits may help to rally the troops in the large urban areas. But I don't the typical white guy in NJ cares that Christie threw his weight around to get out of traffic tickets or stayed in nice hotel rooms when he was traveling. And they certainly don't care that he's fat. Corzine, on the other hand, is the rich Wall Street guy with a fancy condo in Hoboken who probably gets a manicure once a week.

If voters in Newark, Jersey City, Camden, Atlantic City, and the Manhattan suburbs come out in decent numbers, Corzine still has a pretty good shot at winning. And he needs those folks like my parents to wake up and realize that a vote for Daggett, at this point, is better for Christie than for Corzine.

It does seem like Democrats are always behind in New Jersey until Election Day. Although Corzine is apparently a less than ideal governor, I'm sure he's way better than the corrupt, corpulent Christie.

The Daggett vote is almost all protest vote and what do they have to protest, DEMOCRATS, because all they see is the same old politicians. The dems simply lost the independent middle class vote, thanks BO. If Obama had at least scored some big points, maybe end DADT with an executive order, or really just fought for one thing, can anyone name anything he's fought for FROM THE BEGINNING? He's let repugs run him, and people are frustrated, as they should be. Dems better start looking for another candidate because BO's favorability and dems with it will crash by next years election and he'll be a wet noodle unless he gets a lesson in management. he probably shoul've gone to GWB's motivational speech.
