A new CBS poll finds that Americans overwhelmingly don't want Sarah Palin to run for president -- and furthermore, even conservatives don't want her in the race.

Respondents were asked: "Would you like Sarah Palin to run for president in 2012?"

The top-line numbers: Only 24% would like Palin to run, compared to 66% who don't want her to run. Broken down by party identification, among Republicans it's 44%-48%, with Democrats 9%-83%, and among independents 26%-62%.

And among self-identified conservatives, only 41% said yes, to 50% who said no. Palin's only bright spot was white evangelicals, who favored a run by a narrow margin of 48%-42%.

The poll is nonsense. Probably 100% of Democrats hope she'll run. If we could trick, um, talk Palin into picking Bachmann for VP, all the better.

But Candy Crowley says that she taps into something!!

Candy Crowley also said, when asked about Palin saying that Obama began his career in the home of a domestic terrorist, "well, the left has an interest in portraying opponents as wild-eyed individuals", or words to that effect, and never actually addressed the original question which was about Sarah Palin in particular

Get that? Sarah Palin makes incendiary comments, and it's the responsibility of the left according to Ms. Crowley.

Are you sure that's what Candy Crowley was saying? Or did Crowley claim that most US males want to tap into Sarah Palin? (It's amazing how the rightwing noise machine can garble quotations in ways that benefit them.)

And no, I'm not one of them. Her eyes are almost as crazy as Michelle Bachman's.

How many of those wanting her to run were actually progressives?

You go girl. No one personifies the majesty and wisdom of the right wing quite like you.

Don't believe the polls, Sarah. Run in 2012...and if you don't get the nomination, go third-party! That's super-mavericky!

Yes. Going third party is super-mavericky! She should do that and show people what going rogue really means.

Pagent walk to the presidency by way of a third party. Maybe she can reuse the bull moose label. Obviously, her policies are a 180 from Teddy, but that never stopped these people before. She likes dressing moose I hear.

Another notch in Bill Kristol's credibility!! First, Dan Quayle, then the Iraq War with GW Bush, then Sara Palin! Why do people listen to him? I mean, really, why?

Well there goes that darn liberal media again -- tryin' to confuse the issue by draggin' in things like facts and numbers, and askin' all those pushy questions, and putting "g"s on the end of words.

But Sarah'll show 'em, 'cause she's one of us: A simple moose-huntin', God Jesus lovin', commie hatin' good ol' gal. A woman of the land. The common clay of the last frontier. You know: a moron.

Sarah Palin is the Kate Gosselin of politics...a legend in her own mind who does not realize that her popularity comes from the public penchant for watching trainwrecks unfold.

These are the redneck males who get on their knees daily and fervently pray for a miracle date with Sarah.

This analysis is even funnier.

The Newsweek cover is a shrewd strategic maneuver to demean Palin without having to take responsibility for it. I think it's brilliant. They take an inelegantly, even laughably propped photo where Palin is an obvious participant as opposed to being a manipulated subject, and recontextualize it to show how far out she is willing to travel on the road of self promotion. They beat her at her own game and in the process shield themselves from what would have been the inevitable criticism if they had dolled her up themselves and posed her the same way.
