The White House just released this photo of Michaele and Tareq Salahi meeting President Obama at the Nov. 24 state dinner the Salahis crashed.
Check it out:

Here's our story on the couple.
And check out this rundown of other famous people the Salahis have shaken hands with, including John McCain, Donny Osmond, Charlie Rangel, Prince Charles and Matt Damon.
Earlier tonight, the Secret Service took sole responsibility for the Salahi-Obama handshake, and promised that other uninvited socialites will not be taking pictures with the leader of the free world any time soon.

If she had her picture taken with Bill Clinton rather than Obama, the right wing would be trying to have her dress subpoenaed.

That was an epic fail. After your global warming/understanding science fiasco, here is additional education for you since you apparently do not know the definition (or spelling) of the word "elite":
Elite:
a. A group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status: "In addition to notions of social equality there was much emphasis on the role of elites and of heroes within them" (Times Literary Supplement).
b. The best or most skilled members of a group.
"Elite" does *not* have a negative connotation, despite Republican efforts to flaunt their ignorance by making up their own word definitions. Thus, using the actual definition of the word "elite", we know the fakers did not "fit right in".

In honesty, they do possess superior skills as scam artists. These are the sort of people we see in various crime documentaries as having faked their way into various social circles and bilked them of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars.
Seems reality programming is now turning toward glorifying criminal behaviors (not that they haven't already).

Ha! Ha! the secret service got played and now they are out to crucify the couple.
Why is anyone surprised:The secret service has been doing a poor job of protecting the "candidate Obama",anyone remember the report that they abandoned their scanning station when Obama campaigned in Dallas during the Dem primary & local Dallas police were befuddled & brought it to light.
Well this is just an extention of not wanting to protect "this" Prez.I have never heard of such a breach except the one guy who keeps defeating the Seceret Service during Bush's inauguration & got near the Queen of England in Britain but those were all outdoor events.

"out to crucify the couple..."
So you think it is OK to try to bypass the security around the President of the United States?
These people are the scum of society, wanting to be on a 'reality' show. Kate + 8 R them. The "balloon boy's" family R them. They've got no real ability, just a lust for TV fame.
They are pathetic.

On the other hand, you're right about the lax protection. I can't imagine the Secret Service letting people near any other President's appearance with visible guns, loaded guns, etc.
Crikey, they shut down Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House for no good reason to "protect" a previous President.

I really hope that TPM would give the same intensity of reporting on Sir John Chilcot's inquiry into the invasion of Iraq that they are giving this fame hungry couple.

Aw, c'mon. Chilcot's inquiry is taking place across a vast stretch of ocean, far, far away, too far away for an American to comprehend, much less be remotely interested in. What kind of far-fetched fantasy are you going to suggest next: Prosecuting peace-loving Americans for blatantly apparent war crimes? P-thuh. Silly person. Shouldn't we all be watching a pseudo-reality TV show, like Dancing with the 700 Club's World's Strictest Nanny?

Kinda like the two naval ships that collided a few weeks ago because the watch was so lax. Seems as though the national trend is downhill and there is little chance of any repercussion for not doing one's job if it involves civil service or government position.
Our elected officials also fall into this category. Too bad for the nation as a whole, but then... "We the Voters" have brought it upon ourselves by getting the bottom of the pond elected for the past thirty or so years..... and then making sure they are reelected over and over.

Ummm. I'd be careful about citing lax attitudes in government, considering the extent to which the private sector royally fucked up the entire world economy last year.

It boils down to this; two people got into a White house event and they were not on the guest list. Checking for that is not subjective; it's dead simple. Is this person on the list? No? Beat it. And what the hell are you doing trying to get in uninvited? Please come with us.
It is a fundamental and unforgivable mistake. The Agents with the responsibility of doing this simple task should be fired.
The details of who they were, how they did it, and the fact that nothing bad happened is not relevant from a security standpoint. They fucked up in a big way and potentially put the presidents life at risk.

To use the jargon of Silicon Valley, this should be called a "resume-generating event."

Are these Secret Service guys leftovers from the Bush administration, like all those DOJ employees still in place? It's clear they had to take an loyalty oath to Bush. Obama? Maybe not so much.
Just sayin'.

I met a secret service guy years ago because Cheney was speaking in our town, and Cheney had heart problems, so they posted secret service guys throughout our hospital in the event Cheney's had another "incident."
I was at the time very impressed by the secret service. The one stationed in our department had attended the best magnet high school school, then gone on to Berkeley. Asian, very focused on his job, but also very good with the public.
So based on meeting (admittedly) just one secret service person, I'm surprised this happened. I'm also appalled.
Yesterday, I spoke with one of our colleagues, a young Marine veteran, who was less than surprised that the secret service had made such a gross error. But he was more upset by the kinds of people who WERE on the guest list.
I guess he does have a point - a state dinner, does it really need to give a spot to Brian Williams? Why not invite an outstanding high school principal? A social justice-oriented clergyman? A doctors without borders nurse?
Shouldn't those people, with a background check, be invited to the White House?
Who is Brian Williams, anyway. I mean, I know what he does, but why is he an "honored guest" and your average taxpaying schmo can't be considered for an invite?

There are two upsides here. One, it highlights the need for better security. Surely, a few heads will roll over this as a warning to others. Second, throw the book as these two, also, as a warning to others.
