The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is using a new pitch in its year-end fundraising: Help our online media guy meet his quota so he can see his mom and his dog for Christmas.
The new e-mail from DCCC New Media staffer Brandon English contains a supposed e-mail from his mom, asking when he's coming home. It is accompanied by a photo purported to be his dog, with his mom saying the dog misses him.
"Help me meet my year-end goal so I can go home and see my puppy!" English exclaims.
Hmm...I can has campaign contribution?
Check out the full e-mail after the jump.
Friend --
This is Brandon from the DCCC New Media team.
My mom's always nagging me about when I can come home from the holidays but there's just too much going on right now for me to leave just yet. The US Chamber of Commerce has already pledged more than $2 million in attack advertising against Democrats surrounding the recent financial reforms legislation and anti-health care reform efforts are reaching an all-time high.
All of our campaigns and the DCCC are facing a critical year-end fundraising deadline where the amount of money we report out will be used as a measure of our success. The Republicans are foaming at the mouth this holiday to show they have the momentum.
We have our work cut out for us and I hope you can help. You can help us make our year-end goal by contributing here.
- Brandon
P.S. Check out the message from my mom below - it's too funny not to pass along. She's on Twitter now too! From: Mom

Hi Bran, my mom radar kicked in today as the temperature is in the 20's and the wind chills in the single digits. I hope you are wearing your hat and gloves if the weather is cold there. You don't want to get sick before the holidays! Ok, back to business. I've been following you and the DCCC on Twitter, although I don't always understand what you are talking about I was glad to see that the Democrats passed some financial reforms!
When are you coming home? I know things are heating up there in Washington with health care reform and the election now less than a year away. But, we want you home for the holidays so hurry up and make your year-end goal so you can come home.
You know your dog misses you.
Love,
Mom
P.P.S. Help me meet my year-end goal so I can go home and see my puppy! Contribute $35, $50 or more today so we can meet our year-end goal.

Tactical genius. We all know there is nothing, nothing the internet responds to more intensely than cute pictures of cats and/or dogs.

Well, okay, there's one other thing the internet responds to even better than cat pictures. But you couldn't put that in a fundraising ask

Actually, from what I understand microtargeting shows that Democrats tend to be dog people and Republicans cat people. I could be totally wrong on that, but I think I learned that in a training in 06.

I'd say Congress this year pretty much proves what I've read, which is that dems are cat people - independent, ornery, impossible to herd - and repugs are dog people - hunting in packs, fanatically loyal, always sniffing alpha dog's ass.

I'm a Dem. I'm a dog person.
Republicans are clearly cat people, because, like cats, they don't give a f**k about you.
