Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) is now jumping upon the the Northwest Airlines attack -- and using it to raise money for his gubernatorial campaign, the Grand Rapids Press reports.

In the letter, Hoekstra denounces the Obama administration on a whole range of national security issues -- ranging from Flight 253 itself to Guantanamo Bay, investigation of the interrogation techniques used during the Bush administration, and what Hoekstra calls Obama policies that "impress the 'Blame America First' crowd at home and his thousands of fans overseas."

By contrast, Hoekstra promises to stand up for Michigan. And he asks for your financial help to do it:

They just don't get it. The system didn't "work" here. Far from it! It is insulting that The Obama administration would make such a claim, but then again, these are the same weak-kneed liberals who have recently tried to bring Guantanamo Bay terrorists right here to Michigan!

My promise to you, as your governor, my first duty and most solemn responsibility is to keep Michigan safe!

For almost a decade I have been a leader on National Security and at the forefront of the war on terror. I understand the real and continuing threat radical jihadists pose to our great state of Michigan and our great Nation.

I have pledged that I will do "everything possible" to prevent these terrorists from coming to Michigan.

But I need your help.

If you agree that we need a Governor who will stand up the Obama/Pelosi efforts to weaken our security please make a most generous contribution of $25, $50, $100 or even $250 to my campaign.

Hoekstra is planning to run for MI governor. How is this situation relevant to a state governor?
When does he want us to start bombing Schiphol airport? Gotta punish someone. Bush punished Iraq for 9/11. Might as well be those librul Dutch although he may have some relatives there.

This actually does have some connection to Michigan. The Detroit/Flint area has the highest concentration of Arab Americans in the nation, and Michigan has the highest concentration of mosques and Islamic religious institutions amongst all states. Hoekstra, hailing from the conservative all-white Dutch Peninsula, is trying to capitalize on the fears a lot of white Michiganders have of Arabs by portraying himself as "tough" on terrorism (read: he'll try to crack down on the Arab population as Governor). The Guantanmo terrorists coming to Michigan line was really nothing more than a veiled attack at how the current Governor Jennifer Granholm has been so open in accepting Arab immigrants. It's really sad, but Hoekstra's doing nothing more thab waging a campaign of fear against citizens of his own state for political gain.

Michigan is not a "Conservative all-white Dutch peninsula". Look at the voting record - we've had a Democratic governor for 2 terms, Both of our senators are Democrats, along with over half of our Representatives, and our electoral votes went to Obama in this last Presidential.

Hoekstra is from our 2nd district, which is the most conservative by far - over on the west side, which covers Holland, Grand Haven, Ludington, etc... That's generally the white/Dutch/conservative part of our state - and by no means represents the rest of us here.

Hoekstra's been an ultra-conservative Bushie Nutjob, especially in the last few years - and may God help us if he does win the Gubernatorial.

Hoekstra has serious emotional issues. He was one of those who claimed that he had "proof" of Iraqi WMD before Bush's War of Choice in Iraq. Of course there never was any proof. So, either he just plain lied, or he's delusional.

I'll go with "delusional." Seems to be afflicting so many Republicans these past several months...or years.

"For almost a decade I have been a leader on National Security and at the forefront of the war on terror"

Doesn't that mean the he failed in this instance as well?

Clearly, Congressman Hoekstra has failed miserably in his efforts to keep America safe from terrorists. Otherwise, the accused would never have been able to board an international jetliner in Nigeria, transit through the Netherlands and then attempt to set off his smuggled explosive device over Detroit.

The questions that need to be asked are:

1) Why does Congressman Hoekstra hate America?

2) Why is Congressman Hoekstra such a miserable failure at protecting America? Does he hate it or something?

Hoekstra is a one person Death Panel who has come between us and our security. A federally elected bureaucrat who wants us to die so he can raise funds for his next try at office. Just what Michigan needs for a governor.

The man is odious. He voted AGAINST funding enhanced technology for -- you guessed it -- ferreting out explosives.

I guess the dream of making Obama "Fail" is to undermine his administration by defunding it and blocking his nominees -- including for the head of the TSA -- the Viguerie playbook.

But look what pot is calling our president black.

The morons who permitted 9/11 and whose shoe bomber Reid was stopped also only by other passengers, not the Bush administration. Totally odious.

So he's afraid of bringing Gitmo prisoners to Michgan and Liberals are weak-kneed.

How's that work? Why is Hoekstra so afraid of prisoners?

Hoekstra must mean 'pinheaded fuckstick' somewhere in the world. Didn't he 'leak' some info out of his committee already that was classified? Where is the ethics investigation for this venereal wart with a tie?
