Michael Moore is threatening the state of Connecticut with a boycott if they don't recall Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) -- which would put Connecticut's economy in a very tight spot, considering they couldn't recall him even if they wanted to.

Moore posted this on Twitter: "People of Connecticut: What have u done 2 this country? We hold u responsible. Start recall of Lieberman 2day or we'll boycott your state."

This comes a day after Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) said that Lieberman "ought to be recalled." In fact, there is no provision in the Constitution for recalling a member of Congress.

Memo to Michael Moore and any other frustrated lefties out there: There is no such thing as a Congressional recall. So until 2012, we're all stuck with Joe.

Demanding the impossible is quite in vogue.

And expanding the definition of "impossible" is the raison d'etre of the current Democratic Party.

Sigh. Way to look like an idiot, Michael.

And while I appreciate that it's pretty satisfying to bash the voters of CT, you are ignoring the realities of the 2006 general election campaign.

About on par with the stream of useful suggestions we're getting from the netroots these days. He might as well have demanded a time-space shift so we could de-elect Lieberman in November 2006. Oh, and then he could have called Obama a sellout and demanded he be his mother's son again.

If Connecticut had GUTS and BACKBONE, they could recall Joe Lieberman!

The Connecticut capitulation is complete.

Oh, it's been complete since 2006 when we CT voters deliberately chose to re-elect two-faced jerkoff Joe Lieberman, ignoring all the hectoring and lecturing from the blogo-left.

The fact that Lamont did not run an effective general election, that the local media was in love with Lieberman AND that Lieberman's support came from Republicans and Independents is irrelevant.

Are you sure it wasn't Obama's fault? I'm pretty sure it must have been Obama's fault. Somehow

Oh, it was DEFINITELY his fault. He campaigned for Joe in the primary! He didn't donate enough money to Lamont for the general! He wouldn't campaign for Lamont in the general! He secretly managed to sabotage Lieberman's web page so that Joe could blame that on Lamont.

He's superman, don't you know?

Damn straight. Now why don't you call the White House and politely request that the president "dirty his hands" by working for meaningful health care reform, instead of trying to foist the Joe Lieberman No Health Insurance Company Left Behind Act down our throats?

You got it. I'm sure that will be every bit as effective as any of the other brilliant political strategies for bringing out a perfect socialist utopia in six months or less that are daily bandied about in blog comment areas.

Well CT voters deserve to be called on their CATASTROPHIC ERROR. But I'm not sure it really helps to do so, satsifying as it might be.

The key thing is that at all costs Joe must be punished in 2012. Labor, women's groups, teachers, liberal activists .... everyone must unify against the old reptile once and for all. He'll have plenty of GOP voting for him, since he is a Republican in all but name. The key will eb finding the right candidate who can appeal to voters.

Joe must be defeated. Not even defeated -- his poll numbers must be so bad, his opponent's fundraising so formidable, that Joe slinks away and doesn't dare enter the race.

A sigificant segment of the Democratic Party is in the process of throwing a huge temper tantrum right now. The maturity level feels around 3 years old.

If only the President would get out his magic wand everything would be great but he chooses not to use it because he is a corporate, sell-out, stooge, warmonnger who doesn't want to help uninsured people because all he cares about is shoveling money into Insurance Companies wallets.

Please, keep brains engaged and a realistic understanding of the requirements to pass legislation in the Senate.

I know we do this every so often but, Gawd, it is pitiful.

No it's not a tantrum yet. It would be that if people made good on threats to disengage and take their marbles home. Obviously there's cause for frustration. But it is not the fault of the good Dems that there are a few bad ones that manage to sabotage our efforts. The voters ultimately picked the current Seante, including Connecticut voters who gave us the gift that is Joe Lieberman. Let's not take our anger out on Dems in general. Instead, we need to fous our anger into punishing the bad Dems in primaries. Bottomline: We should get the stripped down HCR now, and go for more later. And at all costs, Lieberman must be defeated in 2012, once and for all.

Who cares if there's no way to recall a US Senator? JUST DO IT!!

Who cares if there aren't 60 Senate votes for a public option or medicare buy-in? JUST PASS A BILL WITH A PUBLIC OPTION AND MEDICARE BUY-IN!!

That's the problem with Democrats: always expecting the base to count and abide by the rules. What a bunch of losers!

BTW: I didn't know it was against "the rules" to pass meaningful health care reform. Rules or not, meaningful health care reform most definitely was not abut to spring into Obama's lap without him lifting a hand . . . or offering encouragement . . . or taking a stand . . . or advocating strongly . . . or using his political capital . . . or . . .

Obama the Innocent. Nice ring. No-Wasta Man (except, of course, to beat those rotten progressives and labor and whoever else expects that Democrats do what they've said do for the past 50 years and that the president do what he said 8 million times).

The Senate decides who sits in the Senate.

If the voters of CT held a specific election on the Recall of Lieberman, and it was significantly against Lieberman, the Senate (or at least the current controlling majority,) could call for the question of expelling Lieberman, using that vote as a reason to do so.
This is representative government, and if he no longer represents, the Senate has a reason to remove him.

Right. Because they do shit like that in the Senate all the time. There are no institutional or interpersonal barriers to do things like that at all. Not a single Senator would see any reason why setting a precedent like that could be a bad thing for them personally down the road, being superhumanly unconcerned about themselves as all politicians are.
