The North Dakota Republican Party has a humorous new image on its front page today: A "Joke of the day" that just so happens to involve President Obama's birth certificate.

The picture shows the photo of President Obama shaking hands with state dinner party-crasher Michaele Salahi. Obama is given a speech balloon in which he asks to see Salahi's invitation. She answers: "If I can see your birth certificate!"

I asked Adam Jones, political director for the North Dakota GOP, whether it was appropriate to have a joke involving the president allegedly not being born in this country. "You said the keyword, Eric," he replied. "It's a joke."

I asked again whether he thinks this is a proper thing to put on a state party's homepage. "I think it is a joke, and that would be my only comment for you," he said.

That he finally discontinued his Al Qaeda membership!

What a laugh riot!

You mean the one Hawaii hasn't used for decades?
Sorry, but you're going to have to change state laws AND go back in time on your right wing tardis(AKA the Fox News fact check room)to see that kiddo...
Oh, that's right: when it coems to right wing righteousness, things like state laws don't matter a damn - it's only when your areas of zealotry are discussed when state laws become sacrosanct, right?

You want the president of the US to show you his birth certificate because you say so? And who are you? I live in the UK and have seen the CORRECT Hawaaian birth certificate of your President on line.I have also researched about all the nonsensical objections from your GOP,( to the point of manufacturing a forged Kenyan birth certificate with the President's name) and they have absolute no validity. You have LAWS in your country, OK? Follow the laws to address your concerns. The president does not have to show you his birth certificate, you have to follow the the legal procedure if you have questions.

Legality means nothing to the righ wing.
The only thing that matters tothem is their righteousness. If it suits, they will actually say that the consitution means that right wing arguments are the only ones with merit, and people like this 'munster' character will go along and cheer for such an argument.

Why don't you request a copy of your OWN birth certificate and see what it actually looks like? I have birth certificates from three different states (me, my husband, our kids) and guess what? They're all different and called different things (I don't think any of them are called a "Birth Certificate" but instead have names like "Certificate of Live Birth" etc.), yet they are all fairly similar to Obama's Hawaii certificate and were more than sufficient for every government-related purpose that requires a birth certificate.

The "long form" bullshit is just that--bullshit perpetuated by tinfoil hat wearing nutjobs who have no leg to stand on and therefore make crap up.

God. Guns. Gays. Anyone remember McGovern? Used to be that this part of the country couldn't vote Democrat enough. Now the local Baptists, Catholics and Mormons use gays and abortion to pummel everyone into believing that there are two choices: vote Republican or burn in Hell.

One night they figured it was time to do in the Montana guy. The got a five sticks of dynamite and threw it right at Ken (my brother in-law.) Now Ken is a real easy going guy, but it kind of perturbed him. Ken simply lit the fuses and threw them back at them.

They come up with the phony equivalent of George Bush and the Kangaroo Court led by the eternally-disgraced, infamous Justice Scalia in Bush v. Gore, and chirp that there is a modern trend toward alleging illegitimacy "on both sides". Scalia will always be remembered as the Justice who led the charge in making a canard out of rule of law in the United States with smiling Rehnquist over his shoulder; that is the Scalia legacy and always will be.

In plain truth, there is nothing in common whatsoever with Obama.

The votes were all counted in 2008. No party goons shut down counts, not ratified by the Banana Republic actions of the same party members on any court -- Obama just won. It wasn't challenged and it wasn't disrupted. Won by a huge margin.

Adam Jones, you are "joking" that he's illegitimate because he's black. Your actions and the "humor" of your scummy cohorts bring shame upon you, your party, and your State.

Oops.

Unless you're claiming that somehow, that birth certificate wasn't really legitimate, which means his passport must be fake...which means without a doubt that he's from Angola.

Is there some law somewhere that requires a person to keep their own original birth certificate? What makes you so sure that Obama has such a document? What if he doesn't? The man's mother did move around a bit during his childhood do you suppose that its possible that she may have lost a few things along the way? forty-something-year-old piece of paper given to his mother when he was born?

So Munster, seriously, does the fact that a person does not have the original of their birth certificate (which is B.S. anyway, all you get is a certified copy) make that person ineligable to be President of the United States?

Here's another sewrious question for you Munster: Obama's mother was a US citizen. Why does he need to even prove where he was born?

They just can't imagine that a black man is president, so he must be illegitimate in some way.

Since he is illegitimate, he needn't be treated with respect.

Since he doesn't deserve respect, we can make fun of him.

Since we can make fun of him, we can put this joke on the official website.

He's provided a copy of his birth certificate(and just spare me the "I haven't seen it argument--the WH could arrange for every damn person who was interested in seeing it to see it, it would disintegrate, and then you'd be screaming THERE IS NO BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!!!!!) It was certified by the state. There were announcements of his birth in local newspapers. His mother was a US citizen. He was born in the U.S. The only reason there's any "doubt" about this is because he's got dark skin and an unusual name.

You wouldn't give a flying crap about this issue if Barack Hussein Obama looked like a young Robert Redford and was named George McNeil.

See, here's the thing. There is no "long form birth certificate" in Hawaii. They are a paperless-records state now and have been for a while. Anyone born in Hawaii would have the same birth certificate Obama has, no more, no less. He can't produce what does not exist for ANYONE born in Hawaii. The state of Hawaii has confirmed repeatedly that he was born there, but crazy people do not care about facts, and birtherism is a rumor created and spread by crazy people who don't care about facts.

Hey Josh,

Lighten up a little bit. Two reasons:

1) Funny political jokes are often inappropriate. And there's nothing racial here.

2) It's entirely reasonable to assume that the party crashers are actually the butt of the joke. Could you respect someone who crashes a White House party in order to get on a realty show? These are not GOP heroes. They're exactly as crazy as the Birthers.

As for jokes not being appropriate for official party publications, well, that's just silly. Why should politicians be the only people who can't employ satire for the purpose of political commentary?

No, because you are ignorant (yes, that is an accurate statement, not name-calling) about the law. His mother was American. Regardless of where he was born, that means he is American. BTW, Hawaii is part of America since so many ignorant Repubs don't know that.

The birth certificate is readily available, on line, and certified by the State of Hawaii. It was shown on TV. But you are too lazy to find it because that would upset your racist view. And yes, it is racist because you are a cowardly racist, hiding behind the birth certificate mantra. Which is a red herring.

It's not that you're 'daring to ask questions of authority'.
Many of us do that numerous times a day, and always have. The difference is, our questions have to do with reality, and points of relevance to our current situation, discussing our values, and our future. You, however, choose to ignore reality, and with America's population of right wing bigots for backup, you troll and advocate for something that's in your head only.

The fact is, you have deliberately decided that all the proof that goes against your cnspiracy is false, and all the nonsense that you consider proof that goes FOR your conspiracy theory, is bound to be true - despite the fact that all the proof birthers have ever provided has been easily proved farudulent.

You're clinging to straws, and really hopng that Obama is an illegal alien - and many on the right find it easier to believe, because of Obama's skin color. That is your base of support, and indeed the entire basis of your reason for continuing your bizarre little mission.
The burden of proof is on you. In reality land, if you want to be taken seriously, you need to be able to debate within the context of reality - and so far, all your arguments have been based on utter nonsense.
Your argument about long form certificates is simply a red herring, discounted as a reasonable point of contention by the Republican governor of Hawaii for one, but the entire world od administrators knows that LF certs are a thing of the past, and are entirely irrelevant to this debate.
Face it: the law is against you, the people are laughing at you, and reality seems to be your enemy by your own declarations.
Yes, you are crazy.
Birthers, and deathers within the Health Care debate(same people, same logic), ARE crazy.
And that is being very generous.
Take your compliment with some humility and kindly grow up, kiddo.
Or, go fester and get yourself more angry and bigoted. We all know where that will get you.
Unfortunately for you, it seems you don't have a clue.

CLASSIC!
Pure projection.
Once again: grow up, kiddo.
I'm not angry, nor hateful. It's quite obvious that you are - and your use of over the top passive/aggrissive cliches like the above suggests you are well aware as to how dishonest and lacking in integrity you are.

My integrity is attached to me, kiddo - not Obama. It;s leaps of non-logiv like that which convince us that your attachment to reality is minute at best.

Is it just that I can type, therefore write long paragraphs that makes you think I'm angry? Someone who can think and type intimidate you, huh?

So when offered some valid debate points, you ignore those and pretend I have gone on an emotional rant.
I can only assume that you didn't even bother reading what I wrote.
Standard right wing zealot: all you need to know is that the person is opposing your view.
The actual points are of little consequence to you, as you have no interest in reality, or opposing opinions - all that matters is your point, and the fact that only your point can be real.
Even if you don't even know what your point is.

I think you didn't read your post. You've been nothing but insulting trying to justify why this president, unlike others, hasn't shown his long form birth certificate. The suspicious behaviour is compounded by his missing college transcripts and thesis. You shouldn't be so nasty and the president should be able to find his long form birth certificate.

Oh, dear.
How sad for you, that because I've chosen to point out where your logic fails and how utterly ridiculous your argument is, that you feel I'm insulting yiou.
That really does show just how easily your self esteem is affected. It also shows you must know how weak your arghument is, given you take it so personally.
Once again: the burden of proof is on you. All 'birther' proof has been quickly and easily discredited as fraudulent, and everyone from the republican governor of Hawaii, the director of the hospital Obama was born in have confimed his BC is legit, and he was born there. There is no proof that anything other than that happened.
It is you who is insulting yourself. We merely point out how ridiculous and fact free your conspiracy 'theory' is.

PS: can you show records of ANY president who has produced their LF cert as you claim?
AS for the idea itself, let me try to get through to you again: so because I've lost my old LF cert, and because my, and numerous other states have gone to electronic records and NO LONGER PRODUCE long form certificates as copies to give away, that means that I am no longer a citizen of America?
Also you said earlier you're not contesting his allegability to be president. I must assume that you would agree he'd not be allegable for pres if found not to be a citizen?

As for your 'nasty' comment: you can try to sund civilized as much as you like, but this particular argument has it's roots firmly planted in tracism. That is a fact. Most birthers are proud bigots.

OK everyone, Munster has figured us out. We can't just read the Liberal Talking Points here at Talking Points Memo, so let's meet over at HuffPost and get some new Talking Points there. Please hurry because I need my Talking Points right away. I won't know how to defend my insane belief in Obama without them. It's become so hard, otherwise, to resist the siren call of Steele, Limbaugh and Palin, who offer me logic and facts and elegant rhetoric.

I needs my Talking Points (Liberal)!

Is this the "fake me out" where we pretend to go to HuffPo for Talking Points but actually stay here? Or do we just do that on Tuesdays and Thursdays? I know it was written on the long form birth certificate, but the long form birth certificate secrecy tree doesn't have me receiving it until next March and I don't know the rules. I know it's risky asking you this directly on the internet, so don't answer here. Just blink once for 'yes' and twice for 'no', mmmkay?

No Birther I. But I don't understand the old adage about taking the 5th: If you're not guilty, why would you not take the stand in your own defense? To not produce something the rest of us have to produce a number of times throughout our lives just smacks of hiding something. If something smells, well, usually there is something rotten going on.

Who's pleading the 5th?
And do you actually believe that Obama has not provided his birth certificate? If so, then yes, you are a birther.
Obama HAS provided his BC. The fact it's not a long form is because he doesn't have it. No crime in that Many of us have lost ours - and if the state in which we live changes their practice to short form only and all records being electronic, then how is that Obama's issue?
Long Form certs no longer exist in Hawaii. Haven't for decades.
Obama's not hiding a thing.

I think your putting words in Obama mouth. Has he said that it is lost? I missed that press conference. Maybe the dog ate it or maybe he never got one.

Either way he aught to be more agreessive in providing documents to quell "Crazy" birthers questions. The main stratagy to satisfy the birthers seems to be journalist insulting and belittling anyone who asks questions. When the press and gov unite against the people, and a president hides things that don't need hide, something is up.

Munster, since you seem so keen on presidential eligibilities, would you rather have had John McCain as president? One could make a very strong case for him not being a natural born citizen, since he was born in the Panama Canal Zone and his citizenship was only confirmed with legislature after birth... Of course, this didn't come up much because Congress agreed to a non-binding resolution not to bring it up... But clearly, the conspiracy theories should be directed towards Obama.

Of course after the fact, they can pretend they would have been just as hard on McCain. It's like all the right wing commenters being opposed to the top 5% income earners being taxed more, because they give so much to charity. So easily said in the comments section of a blog, but the reality indicates far different.

Munster...I'm not going to insult you. I am truly interested in your responses to the following questions:

1) Why, specifically, is the birth certificate on this website (http://www.fightthesmears.com/articles/5/birthcertificate) not sufficient for you?

2) What do you make of the fact that Obama's birth was announced in both of Honolulu's major newspapers, The Advertiser and The Star-Bulletin, in August 1961?

3) Is there a specific number of experts that need to verify the birth certificate as genuine before you accept it? Or is it a matter that you won't accept it until you hold it in your hands yourself?

Thank you for any insight you can offer!

North Dakota has about 460,000 people. Last year 168,000 Republicans cast their vote for McCain. There are only a few intellectual pockets in North Dakota. It is 2 points lower than the national average for college graduates.

…and the joke is on them. The North Dakota Republicans have not reconciled their funny stuff about Obama and his place of birth with the actual, undisputed truth. John McCain was not born in the United States. He was born in Panama. How is that for irony? These silly Republicans don’t seem to understand that as long as a parent is an American Citizen it doesn’t matter where the birth takes place the baby is a natural born citizen and qualified to be President. The Republicans are such silly ass holes.

In a funny way it is a great move by the Republicans to energise the racist by creating a simple movement which would play to the racist agenda but not expose the Republicans to the charge of racism.

The whole 'birther' stuff has played very well for the Republicans and helped them and their supporters to re-energise the mutton headed no marks to think that their racism has justification.

The only problem with the birthers is that they play it too long and it becomes ridiculous. if the Democrats have any sense they will encourage the birthers because they belong to the Republicans and they do the Republicans no favors.

The birthers have done their job the health care bill has been watered down, the recession now belongs to Obama as does the war in Afghanistan. The Republicans need the birthers to go away now and become voting fodder for the resurgent right 2010 and 2012....

You Obamaphiles make me sick. You're a bunch of frauds just like he is. You try and convince people and pretend you're not the least bit curious or concerned as to why he has spent over $1.5 million on lawyers, and that it is perfectly normal, to block the release of his personal records to the public. If the hospital (two different ones claim he was born there in HI) can't/won't produce a real birth certificate then Obama could present his own. I've got mine. And it names the hospital and is signed by the delivery doctor.

Get a passport?

You mean like the passport Obama undoubtedly has? That he probably got long before he was, you know, elected Senator, or state Senator?

Oops.

Unless you're claiming that somehow, that birth certificate wasn't really legitimate, which means his passport must be fake...which means without a doubt that he's from Angola.

I think.
