Sounds like Michaele and Tareq Salahi have Rep. Peter King (R-NY) on their side.

King, who says he wants to subpoena White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers over Party Crasher Gate, seems to be more forgiving of the Salahi couple who started the whole affair.

He said this morning on CBS it was up to them if they wanted to testify.

"I think they have enough legal problems without increasing it by testifying," King said.

Rogers, on the other hand, is covering up for the White House by declining to testify, King suggested, asking today what she had to hide.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had some choice words for King earlier today.

"I don't think even Peter King would have the audacity to in some way put the Salahis in the trifecta of Watergate, 9/11 or some of the financial dealings," he told reporters in his morning gaggle.

Set aside the fact that King, in the Republican minority, has no subpoena power.

Meanwhile, President Obama told USA Today "the system didn't work the way it was supposed to."

Watch King's remark:

Late Update: King responds to the Gibbs dig:

"The only audacity I had was 'the audacity of hope' that the White House would be honest.  Unfortunately, they are more interested in covering up and stonewalling."

God, they're just such idiots. I think in their little minds, they've decided this is going be their ticket to recreating the glorious and very important triumph they scored in the all-important Travelgate and Christmas Cardgate investigations of the Clinton years.

His are the obvious remnants of the unfulfilled Republican wish to badger Betty Currie before the cameras.

Who knew that the security of the Prez was under the leadership of what is the high-brow equivalent of a party organizer instead of under trained folk like the Secret Service?

Wow...just wow...

OK Peter, I'm going to break this down for you:
The Secret Service has admitted that they let the party crashers in after discovering that they were not on the list. This is how they got in. The social secretary didn't let them in. Further the reason that this never happened in previouse administrations was not because the social secretay was there with them. It was because the Secret Service never let someone in when they weren't on the list. Whe you have a President who has received a 400% increase in death threats and missing names from a list you have doesn't raise a red flag, you should be FIRED, not the social secretary.

They didn't get in because the social secretary wasn't at the door. They got in because the Secret Service were at the door where they should be but, they let them in without an invite as well as I've just seen a the local news in a clip with Robert Gibbs. He was showing the idiot's in the Whitehouse Press Corp the actual invite with the couple should have had but, didn't. It's actually a nice looking invitation. I'd call that the first and only red flag they needed.

I like how King just dismisses two people who've ripped off people with their charity, used Tareq's parents wine business to bilk people who threw weddings there, ripped off vendors, forced his parents to sell off the vinyard because these famewh@res ran up 1 million dollars of debt. Yes leave them alone. Let's go after this suspicious black woman in the White House.Hmmm hidden agenda?
Fire Barney Fife secret service agent, you nimrod. Sheesh

Mr. King: Your colleague Darryl Issa brags about having crashed a White House event himself. Please subpoena him. That should get you both the attention you seek.

The Secret Service goofed up big time. We already know that the Salahis are small time hucksters. That is not the point. Please, everybody, stay on message. It's about protecting the President and Vice President. Even if they are incompetent or venal, like Bush and Cheney.

Wouldn't it have been nice if Peter King was as concerned about Karl Rove and Harriet Myers testifying as he now is of Rogers. As I recall he didn't say a word about Rove/Myers. It is hard to take these hypocrites seriously.

By making this a racist issue, you are showing a stoneage connection to the Whitehouse. Desiree Rogers is a human being, not a black or white, just human. Please treat her like a human and get her story.
It is time that everyone stop hidding behiend color and except resposability.

I'm sure the ladies inside, Jones and Rogers, figured the secret service had the guest list, all they had to do was check people off. That was all they had to do. They got their guns, they got their list, how fucking easy is that? Well surprise, guess what that night Joey Boner is working the gate. It was too much for his little brain to handle. Nobody expects someone so imcompetent to reach the level of Secret Service agent responsible for protecting the president. Maybe he's cross-dressing J.Edgar Hoover's grandson. The Fabulous Salamis should have never made it past the first check point. And yes Jones and Rogers are black, I get it.

I want the Salahis to testify, not because we'll learn anything new about security, it's just so damn funny watching two grifters going on and on about how devastated they are and how wrong it is to insinuate that they are anything less than royalty. Their fabulous lifestyle ended years ago before they started ripping off anyone with in spitting distance of them. They're on the run now. They have lots of bill collectors chasing them around. They're a regular comedic Bonnie and Clyde. Can you imagine the next time they to get people to trust them about anything? It's gonna be boff laughs. They won't be able to walk into a McDonalds without people going "Hey look everybody it's those two piece of shit grifters, the Salamis".
