The new survey of Kentucky by Public Policy Polling (D) gives Rand Paul, a conservative activist and son of Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), a huge lead over the establishment candidate in the Republican primary for Senate in 2010.
The numbers: Rand Paul 44%, Secretary of State Trey Grayson 25%. Grayson was recruited to run in place of two-term GOP Sen. Jim Bunning, who is retiring. Paul, however, has mobilized his campaign around the Tea Party movement and his outsider conservative message.
From the pollster's analysis: "Paul is winning the votes of conservatives by a 47-20 margin, while Grayson holds a 36-34 lead with moderates. Paul is having a particularly good amount of success with folks who think that the Republican Party in Washington has become too liberal -- his lead with them is 54-18."
The Democratic primary is a tight race with state Attorney General Jack Conway at 37%, and Lt. Gov. Dan Mongiardo at 33%, within the ±4.2% margin of error.

Would you call Ron Paul an insider? And who's the guy funded and supported by Mitch and his NRSC buddies? Is it Rand Paul?

A goofball appeals to represent a population of goofballs and is well received. This makes perfect sense. (cue banjo music).......

This is good news for the Dems. Rand doesn't poll well for the general election as far as I recall.

The good news, no more Jim Bunning as one of my alleged senators. The bad news, too many side shows and a costly Democratic primary. Early polls showed that Trey Grayson, current Secretary of State and Republican party golden boy, would do well against either of the two Democratic front runners. Kentucky is in such a sad place overall politically right now, hard to say how Paul would do. Grayson is McConnell's choice and Mitch has a tight grip on the state GOP. It is early yet.

The 54 live on planet Ronald Reagan and the 14 live on planet George W. Bush or John McCain.

Wow, the Grayson blog moles are certainly out in full force. And after the failed smear campaign against Dr. Paul, the Grayson camp's desperation sure is showing. They seem to be suspiciously well-trained by somebody with experience in slander and demogoguery.

Rand Paul is bad for Kentucky. There's no way Kentucky would vote for him in the general election. He's showing a lead now because of the out-of-state money that's poured in to get his name out front and center. The only real conservative in this race is Bill Johnson. If Rand Paul wins the primary, you may as well kiss goodbye any chance for a Republican win in the general election. There's also been a gamechanger which makes this poll moot - the fact that Rand Paul selected an anti-Christian racist to be his campaign coordinator. This lead won't last.

Rand Paul will win in Kentucky. The thud of this amazingly lopsided victory will hit the Republican party establishment like a dead blow hammer. It will prove once and for all that the Bailout / Health-Care / Stimulus republicans are doomed. The democratic party will be the proud parents of the most anti-government constituency in modern "record keeping" history. The "ball" in other words "is rolling"
