The White House is pleased with a new Congressional Research Service report showing that since taking office in January, President Obama has made "historic" change to how lobbyists interact with the executive branch.
Norm Eisen, special counsel to the president for ethics and government reform, blogged today at WhiteHouse.gov a long item boasting about the report's findings.
"We're pleased that CRS recognized a fact that is apparent every day to those of us who work in government: the president's historic restrictions on lobbying are having a significant impact in making sure that the government serves the public interest and not special interests," Eisen writes.
"We hear constantly from public servants across the executive branch how appreciative they are that the president's high standards and tough rules allow them to do their jobs," he said. "That represents the change that the president promised and that CRS recognizes he has delivered."
Under a "How We Have 'Already Changed' Washington" headline, Eisen summarizes the report and also notes the administration has opened up White House visitors logs to the public for the first time ever.
"All of these initiatives are intended to change Washington by putting the public interest ahead of the special interests, and we are very pleased the word is getting out," he wrote.
Late Update: Politico's Ken Vogel took a closer look at that Congressional report.

Bah! Another pathetic attempt to distract attention from their dismal failure to produce the ponies for everyone he promised us in the imaginary conversations we had with him in our heads.

You ObamaBot worshiper, knee-jerk supporter, Messiah-follower etc.! Get your facts right. We know he didn't promise us ponies. But it's a fact that he promised single-payer AND a quick withdrawal from Afghanistan!

Single payer? Never, to my understanding during his campaign. His opposition was in fact a source of debate during the primary. I'll welcome any information to the contrary. A quick withdrawal from Afghanistan? Oh please.
The true worshippers were those projecting rather than actually listening.

Why the sarcasm about the White House trying to draw attention to a story that is far more important than, but has received far less attention than, "Gates-gate," "bow-gate," "crasher-gate," etc.?
Politico-ish.

It's not enough change. He promised that EVERYTHING would change. And this isn't change enough for me to believe in.
I am never ever going to vote for him again.

CT, I have been reading your posts for a couple of years now and we know that Obama is a politician. When it comes time again we will have to make a political choice in that voting booth. He will never live up to our expectations, but it is nice to see that "we can still believe in something greater". I have always been a Conscientious voter myself and voted for Nader a number of time, but this is America and we have to choose between to the two evils. I have never seen a difference between Repugs and Demos, but the type of change that we can expect will never happen until this country becomes conscience. This two party rule is the status quo and there is where the real change is needed and as long as we are "forced" to pick an evil, you will never be able to believe in any "politician".
Keep the faith and stay tuned in, at least, this one can actual give a speech that we can sit through and talk about.

I was being completely facetious.
It worked, evidently.
I'm not satisfied with everything Obama has done and not done, but he's a far better president than anyone on either side of the political divide could possibly be at this point.

I emphatically disagree. If a bunch of people had sucked it up and voted for Gore instead of Nader in 2000, we never would have invaded Iraq, and we never would have had to deal with Bush's massively irresponsible 2001 tax cut that made the deficit skyrocket. But yeah, other than foreign policy, the economy, and health care, Republicans are just like Democrats.

tinmanic, have you ever seen a debate between a Demo and Repug? hint: that is a trick question. There is no real debate, but there is a serious argument in semantics. A real debate is a discussion of the pros and cons of deferring positions, but listen to what is happening now and look what happened then. I personally can not perceive any definitive difference other than the degree of severity.
Point is: They don't serve our interest but their donors. Listen to what Howard Dean said about Demos and trial lawyers.

You don't need to watch a debate between the Dems and Repubs to detect the difference! Just watch the country under a Democratic president v. a Republican president.
If you can't discern the difference between the Clinton and Bush administration, then you're not worth the keystrokes it would take to point out just a few of the most egregious ones, i.e., preventive war, torture, slavish devotion to the free market even when it isn't working.

Gotta love blog news sites ... Now for every single effort they make toward transparency, you mock them.
And then for every time they don't meet your transparency standards, you'll ding them for not following through on promises.
Thanks for continuing to add to the enthusiasm gap!
I can't wait for President Palin in 2012!
