They declared their independence from health care, decried socialized medicine and said health care reform would be much simpler with Rep. Michele Bachmann's 32-page bill.
Conservative Republicans at first billed their new "Declaration of Health Care Independence" rollout as a sort of sequel to the Bachmann "House Call" rally that attracted thousands of tea partiers last fall. But with fewer than 50 people including reporters in the room, it didn't match up.
The smaller venue and muted message was thanks in part because a similarly massive event wasn't possible from a security standpoint for a day when President Obama would be giving an address to a joint session of Congress.
But Bachmann (R-MN) said the document, which she said merged the Constitution and Declaration of Independence and can be found here, "hit a nerve ... with Americans of all stripes" and is the best way forward to reforming the health care system.
She also suggested her own bill, 32 pages long, was the best solution. "It lets Americans purchase insurance with their own tax-free money," removes bureaucracy from the system and is "simple and understandable," she said. Plus, it's so short that "every Congressman can read the bill."
The Republicans said the Tea Party Patriots group already has collected more than 1,000 signers to the declaration.
"Anyone can take this document and post it on their own Web site," Bachmann said. "Take it to your local town hall meeting."
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said the American people have "rejected" the "big bowl of toxic stew" that is the Democrats' health care plan.
More on the declaration can be found here.

I don't know why TPM is so fascinated by Michele but for a review of the state of the MN Democrats on the healthcare issue:
http://www.startribune.com/politics/national/82755217.html?elr=KArks8c7PaP3E77K_3c::D3aDhUMEaPc:E7_ec7PaP3iUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUr
"Klobuchar, citing the new political reality of a weakened Democratic majority, called Tuesday for a scaled-down health care bill that would focus on Medicare cost reforms, insurance regulations and prescription drug coverage.
By contrast, Sen. Al Franken wants to "go full bore" with legislation similar to the Senate bill passed on Christmas Eve. Fiscal changes would be worked out in a budget "reconciliation" process that needs only a simple majority.
"I'm not interested in scaling back the health care agenda," Franken said."
Why worry about Michele, when we've got Senator Sell-Out expediently framing herself as centrist mush.
Until we defeat the centrists, there is no point in worrying about Republicans.

You and IndiePro should get married. You are one of the most negative posters I have ever read. Let's face it you hate Obama and he could part thee Red Sea and you would find fault with it.
Go over to the other side and stay there - I am sure they will appreciate your negativity.

She's starting to remind me of the Barbie doll that caused all the ruckus a few years back - the one where you pulled the string and she said "Math is hard!" We now have a Michele Bachmann doll. Pull the string and she says "Health care reform is hard!"

The Bachman doll I saw at Toys R Us said, "Thinking is hard!"

Bolshevik-busting badlands Boadicea Michele Bachmann battles fraudster fat-cats who feed on body politic. She is our feisty, formidable, fascinating defender and oracle. She will foil the "healthcare" fakers.

Yes! She is an "oracle"! Because oracles have always said things like 'Let's put prosperity in a bill!" and "Literally, if we took away the minimum wage, we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level" and "In some ways, to believe in evolution is almost like a following; a cult following."

To cap it all off, I heard she actually claimed there is 57 states in the US. Can you believe an American politician could actually believe that? Oh, wait, it wasn't Bachmann who said that. My bad.

your comment raises a stark contrast between President Obama and the moron he replaced. after an entire year of his presidency, the only slight you can come up with is that, as an exhausted candidate, he said "states" instead of "primaries" or "jurisdictions"? that's all you've got? really?
well then, i'd say that's quite a welcome change from that mentally challenged texan fellow people like you inflicted on the american people for 8 years.

When you look at the reputation and competence of Elizabeth Warren and consider that Geithner was Obama's choice for Treasury, you should ask: What was Obama thinking anyhow?
