Scott Brown, the Republican candidate in the Massachusetts special election, said today he has already made travel plans to go to Washington, D.C., this Friday if he wins.

As we've reported, Massachusetts won't certify election results for about 15 days after tomorrow's election, and the U.S. Senate won't swear a winner in until they get that paperwork from the state.

But Brown has said he expects to be sworn in right away.

The timing is important because Brown's vote would end Democrats' filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. If he's sworn in before the Senate votes on health care, Democrats will have to take extreme measures -- such as trying to persuade the House to adopt the much more conservative Senate bill or going for reconciliation -- in order to pass the legislation.

And so it begins. Everything they said for six months during the Franken-Coleman recount ordeal, straight down the 'ol memory hole and thier already digging the new holes for the goalpost.

But Brown has said he expects to be sworn in right away.

I expect to win SuperLotto, too, but I don't model my behavior on that expectation. Doesn't Brown understand state law?

Never mind.

It's always, and I mean ALWAYS ok if you're a Republican.

Good for him. I hear DC is lovely this time of year. Perhaps he could occupy himself with a show at the Kennedy Center or by having dinner at one of the nice restaurants.

He isn't going to be sworn right away. He has to be certified first. Al Franken couldn't be sworn in right away.

The Conservadems will filibuster anything until Brown is seated "for the sake of good government".

What is this "filibuster-proof majority" I keep hearing about? I'm pretty sure we don't have one of those because, you know, the word "filibuster" and the word "proof" have specific meanings. Meanings which are not at all supported by the current state of the Democratic caucus.

At best, we have a 60-member caucus that won't, you know, filibuster too hard on Democratic priorities, so long as Aetna gets plenty of federal money and women and brown people get none.

Massachusetts should not deny Brown from taking office because *gasp* it hasn't actually counted the ballots yet. It should just assume he won and certify his victory immediately.

Clearly Republicans think it's more important to swear in the person who may have gotten the most votes rather than the person who did.

No kidding; the coverage around here is boggling the mind. Everybody's dead-man-walking over this deal. Maybe we should wait for the election?

Franken had to wait for the very last court to make another unanimous ruling, AND for Coleman to concede. If Coleman had filed suit in the federal courts, we might still be waiting. Hey Republicans, you made Franken wait...

what is wrong with Massachusetts? Brown is a lying teabagger in the Beck/Palin mold. Ever listen to that creep talk about policy and hear his kooky nonsense? Has the Bay State gone insane?

C'mon MA Dems get out and vote - don't let Teddy's legacy be that he died just so Health Care Reform can be defeated.

He has nothing to worry.

The White House, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi will welcome him to DC with open arms, then try and court him over healthcare. Of course, he'll snub them, but they're used to that. They'll just keep saying "we're on the cusp of passing healthcare reform." You know, like they've been saying for the past year.

Dolts.
