Republican candidate and state Sen. Scott Brown doesn't want President Obama to come to Massachusetts to campaign for his opponent, state Attorney General Martha Coakley.

"He should stay away and let Martha and I discuss the issues one on one," Brown told the Boston Herald this week. "The machine is coming out of the woodwork to get her elected. They're bringing in outsiders, and we don't need them."

The White House has said Obama will not campaign for Coakley in the Bay State, but he did cut a web ad and send an email to supporters urging them to get out and support the Democrat.

The plucky underdog is standing up to President Obama - exactly the message he wants to put out. Of course Brown had outsider help long before Coakley finally woke up to the fact that she actually had to campaign.

More than 60 percent of Brown's donors are out of state, compared with 30-something percent for Coakley. Who could have predicted such hypocrisy about "outsiders" from a Republican?

The Man Who Would Be Senator:

State Senator Scott Brown, a rising star in the state's depleted Republican ranks, yesterday defended his use of profanity during a student assembly at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham, saying he simply repeated hateful statements that had been posted online about him and his family....

Obama's presence will inspire people to come out and vote.
Brown is an ideologue so if democracy gets in the way of a Republican victory - then democracy is a bad thing and turning out the vote is a threat to him.

He worships at the feet of Friedman & Greenspan not Jefferson & FDR.

Why the jump on the first comment "The plucky underdog is standing up to President Obama - exactly the message he wants to put out. Of course Brown had outsider help long before Coakley finally woke up to the fact that she actually had to campaign."?

The next two jump on him like he was a troll, but if you pay attention to the post it is anything but. The first sentence has a whiff of irony and also happens to be true. That IS how Brown is trying to portray himself. We may not like it, but that doesn't mean it is unreasonable or trollish to state what the other side is trying to do. The second sentence is obviously being sarcastic at the disengenuousness of the very strategy.

Plenty of trolls around with being Chicken Little and seeing one under every bed.

Personally, I don't give a rat's patootie what Brown thinks. If Mr. President has the ability to squash him like a bug, I'm all for it. Brown is the one who chose to make the President's signature issue THE point of contention in the campaign by bragging "I'm going to be the 41st vote against healthcare reform." That's like Jack asking The Giant not to chase him after Jack starts trying to steal the gold.

"Don't tug on Superman's cape. Don't spit into the wind . . . ."

Um, but isn't he, Mr Brown, getting help and money from outside the state? So wouldn't it be a little hypercritical now to say that the Democrats can't lend a hand, but it is OK for the Republicans to help him.

Last time I checked, Barack Obama is the President of Massachusetts too... Meanwhile, State Senator Brown only represents one portion of his state. I don't think he gets to call shots... I think he gets a double shot of STFU.

Brown is right. Outsiders should stay out of the race. It's about Brown and Coakley. That's why Brown is campaigning arm-in-arm with Rudy Giuliani today.

In other news, Scott Brown was joined by noted Massachusetts resident Rudy Giuliani at a rally in Boston's North End this morning.

Sounds to me like he's afraid. He'll take your money but don't come to the state! Now, who's he got campaigning for him? *crickets*. Coakley has Big Dog, O, etc. Now, its sad in a way that she didn't get her sh*t together quicker but, hey, a wins a wins a win.

He wants to limit outsiders from carpetbagging? Great. Lets see how the Grand Old Tea Party does in Nov. w/o Palin.

I suspect Biden wouldn't motivate the groups Coakley needs to turn out - like the overwhelming number of voters in Boston who look at these two uninspiring people and ask why bother. A big wind up by Obama may make a big enough turnout difference to tilt the outcome.

It was pointed out to me, and I have found it to be unvariably true, that every accusation from a Republican asserting wrong-doing by someone else, is exactly what that Republican has tried to do, or wants to do.

Yeah, like he'd decline McCain's help if McCain were president. Reason #431 to vote against Brown: He used the nominative case ("let Martha and I") where he should have used the objective case.

Yeah, well, what do you expect from a male model?

He was a lightweight when he started his political career (I was living in the area then) and he's a lightweight now. The only difference, apparently is that he's got a better campaign manager and more attention from Faux News & Friends.

Of course. It makes perfect sense that Coakley can't call in help and money form outside MA, but Brown can and is.

Perfect sense.
