CPAC: Palin Camp Didn't Give Us A Reason For Her Turning Down Invitation

Sarah Palin has declined an offer to speak at CPAC, for the second year in a row. Why, exactly?

Dave Weigel wondered if it had to do with CPAC not paying guests any speaking fees or travel expenses, compared to Palin's lavish fees from the Tea Party convention. Politico cites an anonymous source close to Palin, who put the blame on CPAC, based on a report late last year that its parent organization, the American Conservative Union, had asked Federal Express for millions of dollars in exchange for its support and work on an issue campaign. "Palin is taking a stance against this just as she did in Alaska," the source said.

CPAC director Lisa de Pasquale told TPMDC that their interactions with the Palin camp were cordial, and Palin never walked away from any previous commitment to attend. "There was never an acceptance," de Pasquale said. "We were still working together as early as, I believe, early this week. They had told us that they were trying, they were rearranging her schedule, or looking at her schedule to make sure it could work."

"They didn't communicate any specific reasons, just that they were working on it," said de Pasquale. Was there any discussion of a speaking fee? "They never asked for money," de Pasquale responded.

"We certainly have great admiration for Gov. Palin, and we hope that she'll speak in the future" de Pasquale added.

I asked de Pasquale whether the story in Politico, that Palin was offended at the ACU asking Federal Express for money, was a factor. "They have never communicated any reasons to us," she responded. "Our relationship with them has always been very cordial and friendly. So I don't have any comment on what an unnamed source would say."

Other than illuminating the ongoing con game she and hubby are running on the teabaggers, who cares? The notion that Palin would ever subject herself to the scrutiny of a presidential campaign is laughable. She and the media maintain the pretense because it keeps the dough flowing. But she knows she'd disintegrate under even the most prefunctory version of the scrutiny a presidential candidate gets, and they do to.

I disagree completely. Palin has charisma. She's no more an unelectable empress-without-clothes than Reagan or Bush. She's the only candidate they've got with any chance of giving Obama a battle, and is certainly the front-runner for the nomination. "Perfunctory scrutiny" is right! If she runs, Palin will get a free pass from the MSM. She won't wilt under scrutiny at all, because there won't be any worth the term. She's a real threat.

Sarah Palin is the superstar of American conservatism. She rules the American heartland, and every political forum outside the New York/Washington/Hollywood axis of affluence. She sets her own agenda, names her own price, follows her own rules. She does not need to explain herself to any person or group. She bestows her favor upon the fortunate and the blessed. He who hath ears, let him hear. Her supporters will not waver.

She's an ignorant hillbilly just like her supporters. They're all uneducated morons who buy her bullshit. And yes, if she want to run, she does have to face the scrutiny and answer questions. As we've all seen though, she incapable of that. Her supporters won't waiver and just like 2008, they won't win. The rest of the oountry is not nearly as stupid as you hayseeds! Clearly CPAC was good enough for the bloated one, Limbaugh but, not the queen of the grifters.

She's no less capable than Reagan or W, is she? I sure don't think so. Bush proved that Republicans could nominate anybody and elect them. As for scrutiny, don't make me laugh. There isn't any worth the name, if lames like Reagan and W don't get "scrutinized" out of contention. The media love a battle. If Palin is nominated (and she has it for the asking, IMO), the media will prop her up, not tear her down.

Obviously CPAC wasn't willing to pony up Palin appearance fee. Just like a elite track and field stars, Palin isn't going to appear at a meet without an upfront fee - I'd expect she'd cut CPAC a deal and only charge $50K instead of the normal $100K, provided she was also provided a location to hawk her book.

Correct about her wanting a fee. Palin's motto is: "Show me the money"! And.... your name looks strangely familiar. lol I know someone who has one almost like yours.

I'll give you the self-serving part, but as with Dana Perino, Mary Matalin and Liz Cheney et al., calling Sarah Palin a whore would only be accurate if she were much, much, much, much classier. Otherwise it just gives real, honest-to-goodness whores a bad name.

This one is so obvious.... Show Palin the money and she'd be there.

Once again, Palin proves she too is bought and paid for and if she was really for a cause, she'd donate her time.

Ah, but Palin is only concerned with Palin....

What's most disgusting about her is that she deceided to have her baby with the full knowledge of science which clearly shows that older women stand a much better chance of having a baby with Down Syndrome. That's fine but, she would deny other women to make a different choice. She throws that baby in our faces as some sort of miracle when the real miracle would have been the child being born healthy at her age.

She won't run because Trig's birth certificate is too hot a topic and she won't be able to dance around it like she did last time...unless Andrew Sullivan falls over dead or something.
Enjoy.
