According to a new poll, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is in position to dash the hopes of Republicans hoping to pick up Sen. Chris Dodd's (D) seat this year. The popular Blumenthal defeats all major GOP contenders for the seat by huge margins in a new poll from Quinnipiac University, a result that highlights the political difficulties for Dodd that led to his decision not to seek reelection.
In the poll's hypothetical matchups, Blumenthal defeats the front-runner in the GOP primary for the seat, former Rep. Rob Simmons, 62-27. Blumenthal leads self-funder Linda McMahon, who's running behind Simmons in the GOP primary race according to the Q poll, 64-23.
The results are big shift for Democrats in the race. In the last Q poll, taken in November when Dodd was still a contender, both McMahon and Simmons led.

Hopefully, Blumenthal is smart enough to know he still has to run a campaign.

Don't worry. Being from CT, and observing Blumenthal's career for the last 20 years, there is nothing he doesn't take seriously. He will not only run to the finish line he'll run through the finish line.

I think this demonstrates that really good candidates can overcome the challenges that confront Democrats this year.

The best news is Lieberman's approval plummets.

His best demographic group right now in CT is Republican voters...and they don't like him that much either. Joe is toast...he is in far worse shape politically than Dodd was.

And of course any day now the "liberal" media will report that Dodd's retirement was not good news for Republicans after all. Yeah, right.

You have to believe Linda McMahon will end her campaign soon. She's throwing a lot of private money at this. Might as well just pull out and run again in two years. Hell I bet both Simmons and McMahon will both approach the other saying "If you promise not to run in two years, I'll bow out now".
In 2012 there will be a three way race where anything can happen. Murphy - Lieberscum - Republican. In such a case high thirties could be enough to win.
