Senators Tom Harkin (D-NH) and Max Baucus (D-MT) said today that the Democrats are not going to give up on health care reform.

Following a meeting of top Democrats in the Senate, Harkin and Baucus maintained that there's still life in the push for health care reform yet.

According to Politico, Baucus said the meeting "reinforced momentum, reinforced commitment," and that despite rumors, "we're not going to put it down."

"I'm not saying it's going to be done tomorrow," he said. "But I'm also saying it's going to be done before spring, summer. We're moving expeditiously. And expeditiously means quickly, solidly, thoughtfully."

Harkin echoed Baucus: "I think some things may happen before we leave here in the next weeks. That we'll see some movement, that we'll see some things start to gel on how we're going forward."

Baucus doesn't dare admit that Snowe Snowed him so badly. I'm not sure what Harkin's excuse is.

Health care reform is dead. Only those who want to revise it at the last moment when they have power haven't realized that.

It's dead. That is what the opponents were working for when they dragged the process out. Bills that are delayed do not survive. The enemies gain hope and the supporters lose hope over time.

It's worked. Again. All it takes is money.

Comprehensive Health Insurance Reform (still not sure why people still refer to it as Health CARE Reform) is dead. Just like Comprehensive Immigration Reform died.

You know its dead when all you get are nebulous platitudes.

"It's not dead." "We're not going to give up." "We might have something before the spring or summer." "Something should gel in a few weeks on how to move forward." "The hard stuff takes time." "The push continues." "We are in discussions."

I still believe we might get something. But nothing that could be defined as close to "comprehensive" (even though whatever it is, I'm sure the powers that be will try to spin it as BEING comprehensive on some level).

Good effort. But we simply could not get past the corruption and fear. They were too strong. Again.

And with the SCOTUS ruling now firming in place, the corruption will get worse. Potentially, MUCH worse. The future is much dimmer than it was only 1 year ago.

I want to be optimistic. But we'll see.
