Sen. Blanche Lincoln's office (D-AR) is denying reports that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is allegedly urging her to retire this year, in the face of poll numbers showing her in a tough race.
"No truth to it," Lincoln spokeswoman Kate Laning Niebaum told The Hill. The DSCC also strongly denied the report, in an interview with TPMDC. "Sen. Blanche Lincoln is running an aggressive campaign in Arkansas, and we have no doubt that she will win," said DSCC National Press Secretary Deirdre Murphy.
This came after the Arkansas Times reported that the DSCC was urging Lincoln to bow out. Such a retirement would hypothetically open the way for a different Democratic candidate, such as fifth-term Rep. Mike Ross or retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark (who has also been rumored as a possible candidate for the House seat of retiring Democratic Rep. Vic Snyer).
Interestingly, this report comes after DSCC chairman Robert Menendez's told TPMDC that the Democrats must do a "forensic examination" of the party's candidates in the wake of the defeat in Massachusetts. Such an analysis alone could potentially lead to all sorts of chatter, whether it's well-founded or not.

Mike Ross? Leader of the House Blue Dogs? Really?
How about a certain Lt. Governor.

Blanche Lincoln will not win re-election. If she doesn't drop out Democratic voters will stay home rather then vote for her. The Democrats only hope of retaining this seat is for her to leave and have a more progressive candidate run. Also we need to see that the following other Senators don't get re-elected.
1. Evan Bayh of Indiana in 2010
2. Ben Nelson of Nebraska in 2012
3. Kent Conrad of North Dakota in 2012
4. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut in 2012
5. Bill Nelson of Florida in 2012
6. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana in 2014
7. Max Baucus of Montana in 2014

Bayh is a sympton and a cause of what ails the Democratic party. So is every one of those other losers on the list. Good riddance to all of them. et them run as Republicans b/c that's what they are. Replace them with real Dem candidates and fight like hell to persuade people Dems are right and Repubs are wrong. If you can't win a race then that's life. You keep working and try again next time. These Conservadems do nothing but undermine the platform and agenda of the Democratic party, making the party more fractious and less effective.

From that list only Lieberman has the opportunity to be replaced with a more liberal politician. Maybe Baucus if Schweitzer wants the seat. Florida would be a possibility, but the Dem bench there is pathetic. I expect Nelson to lose to Jeb Bush in 2012.

Progressives need to learn to live with Conservadems because of the screwed up Senate system that allows Wyoming to have the same number of Senators as California. There is more conservative states then Democratic States, which means Conservadems is the best progressives can hope for.

Or, progressive Democrats could make a concerted effort to educate voters on the issues, rather than let conservatives keep winning them over with sound bites and logical fallacies.
I guess the trick is to get their attention and try to keep it for a whole minute or two.

Walter, I disagree. I think it's better for Dems not to have the ME seat than to have Ben Nelson in there. Same w Landrieu, Bayh, etc. They aren't real Democrats and they undermine the party from within. They are toxic. Let the GOP have them.

Then you're dooming the Dems to minority house status if you're going to give up all red and purple-red states.
Pryor, Lincoln, Ben Nelson, Bayh, Landrieu, Bachus, Conrad, Bill Nelson, Webb, Warner. We'd have to hold on to all blue and purple-blue seats. I guess it could be said both Maine senators should be Democrats.

Why doomed to minority status? I just don't believe that. If the Dems could get out of their own way and focus on promoting their policies I think many people could and will be persuaded. Remember: the Republicans are the opposition and their policies very nearly destroyed the country. Freedom AND responsibility. Government is how civilized people solve their problems. Just keep hammering away until people realize you're right. This DLC-centric party is devouring itself. If we lose some states that's unfortunate but not as damaging, ultimately, as pretending you've won only to have Conservadem senators stab the party in the back when they are most needed. The Conservaems are wrecking the Democratic party. We here shouldn't be bickering among ourselves but that is what the Conservadems have done: people try to twist into knots to defend them and they sacrifice the heart of the party to do it. It ain't worth it because, when you do your opportunity to lead -- like the Dems have now- -- they are crippled by the neo-Republicans in their ranks. Which is what we're witnessing right now.

Well he might be right, Massachusetts elected Scott Brown. However I don't see any progressive pulling such an upset in a ruby red state.

The Lt. Governor seems like a much better option than Mike Ross. For a guy who isn't (yet) campaigning, he polls pretty well too.

I don't care who it is - no Democrat is going to win a U.S. Senate seat in Arkansas this year.
