Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ), who is challenging Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in the Republican primary this year, appeared on Hardball this evening, and stood by his previous statements in favor of the birther movement.

Matthews asked Hayworth: "Are you as far right as the birthers?" Are you one of those who believes that the president should have to prove that he's a citizen of the United States, and not an illegal immigrant? Are you that far right?"

"Well, gosh, we all had to bring our birth certificate's to show we were who we said we were, and we were the age we said we were, to play football in youth sports," Hayworth responded matter of factly. "Shouldn't we know exactly that anyone who wants to run for public office is a natural born citizen of the United States, and is who they say they are?"

Matthews referred back to some of Hayworth's past statements. "I'm reading your letter that says the president should go back and get his birth certificate from the governor of Hawaii," said Matthews, who then added: "I'm just asking, do you stand by this letter?"

"Yeah, sure," Hayworth responded.

"Should the governor of Hawaii produce evidence that the president is one of us, an American?" Matthews asked. "Do you think that's a worthy pastime for the governor of Hawaii right now?"

"No, I -- look. I'm just saying the president should come forward with the information, that's all," said Hayworth. "Why should we depend on the governor of Hawaii?"

That's what I've been saying. I live in this backwards state. McCain is a tool, but this guy is worse. McCain has endless funds to campaign with, so I doubt JD will get too far. But...it also means that we won't get a Democrat in the Senate. Got my county Democrat newsletter today and it looks like they may be backing Rodney Glassman. The more I read about him, the better he sounds. Doesn't have a friggin chance, though.

But, hey, if y'all got time, look him up and give him some love. And, by love I mean money. And, by money I mean $20. The non-birther, anti-teabagger people of Arizona thank you. And, by non-birther, anti-teabagger people of Arizona I mean me.

They want mclame out and if they can use a birthier to do it they have before and they will again.

Mcshame will be asked about this and Mcstupid will say we have better things to focus on than foolishness.

Then O'Limbaugh will go after McCain calling him turncoat or a democrat and invite him to leave the conservative party.

Don't you folks see this......they want the country to be ruled by racist old white men or young ones.

Although a fellow Republican, JD is not my kind at all. JD has a long history of really hateful disgusting comments. Just let him blow his stack on this one. It is an established fact, verified by the Hawaiian Republican Governor and the Republican Health Department Director that indeed, Obama was born in their state. Just let JD keep on with his racist bilge and we will se how he does here against McCain. But I expect JD to move his objections and his bile to the subject of John McCain and then Arizonans will not tolerate that. Remember John McCain served honorably, was a POW for years and would not leave captivity on any special arrangement that did not include everyone. JD on the other hand has a long history of filth talk about some Presidents and even folks in his own party. He is an uncouth and disgusting person. Let it rip JD and we will show you how we feel about anyone attacking John McCain in your disgusting manner.

This guy is a true embarrassment to me. He is delusional if he thinks that he will overtake McCain in his race for the Senate. This guy has a long history of incoherence and if he just keeps on talking, he will self-implode. He is really not all that bright and he is full of really disgusting campaign indignities. If this guy should win the nomination on the off chance Arizonans just do not get it how utterly useless he is, I just might have to move out of Arizona from total embarrassment for my own Republican Party. Remarks like this are why no one listens to your side of the argument anymore. You just insult instead of making an argument. This is why Air America died. The left does not know how to articulate their message and only knows how to insult and blame. McCain lost because he seemed old and tired and not up to the demands of the office and plenty of Republicans were against his ideas on immigration and his Washington insider mentality. Arizona should replace him, and I say this as a Republican who voted for him in the presidential election. What possible basis could you have for calling someone "filth" - small vocabulary or just a small mind?

As others have pointed out, birtherism isn't based on any observable evidence or lack thereof. It's basically a religious issue, as the governor of Hawaii *has* produced a birth certificate. But the birthers wouldn't be shaken even if an 8mm film of the BIRTH was found, with Don Ho singing the soundtrack and a volcano in the background - they'd probably get the fake-moon-landing yoyos to announce that the video wasn't real or something.

It is refreshing to see so many learned people here. I am sure your opinions are based on the constitution, you know, that document that established the greatest republic on the earth, and of course, you have researched and understand the meaning of the term “natural born citizen”, as stated in Art. 2, Sec. 1.

I am sure as an informed member of the progressive democrats, you have no problem in spotting an “illiterate conservative” like J.D.

It is really sad that you are in the minority, otherwise we could be living in a great socialistic country like, oh say, Russia, France, or maybe even Cuba, or China.

Does TPM have something to do with substance abuse? With the exception of a few users everyone else appears intoxicated or high.

John McCain was compelled to present his birth certificate to a senate committee prior the election because of some question of his parent's citizenship status at the time of his birth. So clearly the "Natural Born Citizen" thing seems to carry some weight.

Obama wrote in one of his books that his old birth certificate was one of his most cherished items and he keeps it in a special box. If he is to be taken at his word then why, when asked to present a birth certificate during the election, would he have to get a new one?

Obama did not provide school transcripts, medical records (he got a note from his doctor) or any record of his being naturalized after returning to the US after his life in Indonesia.

The conversation should start with; why has no one asked him about it?

Here's one; He was a card carrying member of the hard left New Party in 96 when he ran for the State Senate...when did he terminate his membership and when did he stop being a socialist?

J.D. isn't the problem.

The man in the White House is not who he says he is. Or better yet, after watching all his old videos and hearing his old interviews, maybe he is exactly who he says he is.
THAT is the problem.

What the birthers fail to understand is that under the U.S. Constitution, the only mechanism for selecting the president is by Congress opening the votes. If you have a problem with the candidate's credentials, the proper arbitor of that issue is the congress, so feel free to petition them.

Once in office, Art. I sec. 4 provides the sole mechanism for removal of the President, trial in the Senate.

You can whine and complain all day - every single court will throw you out for the very same reason, and they won't waste much time explaining why, since you clearly do not understand.

Obama was born a 'Natural Born British Subject', NOT a 'Natural Born Citizen', as stated by the opinion of the supreme court in 1898 US V Kim Wong.

In Minor V Happersett, the US Supreme court stated that a Natural Born Citizen is a Citizen born without doubt. 'Doubt' entered the picture when Obama was born in allegiance to the crown of Britain.

"Birth and allegiance go together", and like it or not, Obama to this day is STILL, an 'Oversea's British Citizen' as stated by the British Nationality act of 1981.

It's entertaining to see all those still suckin' on the Head Nanny What's In Charge. How dat taste, bro? I can see now why McCain is representing Arizona in the Senate. His incompetence is a good match for Arizona voters.

By his own words, Obama is an illegal alien. By his own words, he attended public school in Indonesia at a time when non-citizens could not do so, and when Indonesia did NOT recognize dual citizenship. If he ever was a US citizen, he renounced his citizenship at that time. Also BY HIS OWN WORDS, The One traveled to Pakistan in 1981. The only problem with that is, you could NOT do that on a US passport at that time. Suck on, bro! The Head Nanny What's In Charge appreciates your lips.

The debate over Obama's citizenship a rather short and simple one.

Q: Did he travel to Pakistan in 1981, at age 20?
A : Yes, by his own admission.

Q: What passport did he travel under?
A: There are only three possibilities.
1) He traveled with a U.S. . Passport,
2) He traveled with a British passport, or
3) He traveled with an Indonesia passport..

Q: Is it possible that Obama traveled with a U.S. Passport in 1981?
A: No.. It is not possible. Pakistan was on the U.S. State Department's "no travel" list in 1981.

Conclusion: When Obama went to Pakistan in 1981 he was traveling either with a British passport or an Indonesian passport.

If he were traveling with a British passport that would provide proof that he was born in Kenya on August 4, 1961, not in Hawaii as he claims. And if he were traveling with an Indonesian passport that would tend to prove that he relinquished whatever previous citizenship he held, British or American, prior to being adopted by his Indonesian step-father in 1967.

Whatever the truth of the matter, the American people need to know how he managed to become a "naturalborn" American citizen between 1981 and 2008.

The point you flat liners always want to ignore is why has the impostor in the White House spent millions to avoid producing any documentation proving his birth in Hawaii. Hayworth was absolutely right - it's not the responsibility of the Governor to prove his case. It costs Obama zip to produce his birth certificate.
