President Obama will take questions from YouTube users next Wednesday at a live White House event, another push from his tech-savvy team to open up the process to everyday people.
The event is billed as allowing follow-up questions to his State of the Union address tomorrow night.
The White House posted a blog this morning detailing the project, but has not announced it to the press. It's another example of the Obama team circumventing the Washington establishment to communicate more directly with voters.
They also plan to stream Obama's speech online tomorrow night and via their new iPhone app.
"Of course, many Americans will react to the speech with questions, comments, and concerns," Macon Phillips writes at WhiteHouse.gov. "Now we are excited to announce how President Obama will also be using the web to offer the public a direct and participatory way to communicate back to him."
YouTube will stream the speech live here, and then people can submit questions. Users can vote the questions up or down and Obama will answer them next week.

Someone had better make sure Joe Wilson is blocked from this event...

And this is what now passes for exciting news from the Obama Administration. As a decent hoops player once said: WHOOP-DE-DAMN-DO.

Another Moment of Geek that demonstrates the steely nerve and iron resolve of a true leader.
How's about an unscripted, live town hall in Detroit or Syracuse or Helena in which you field questions from real unemployed Americans and explain how your new jobs program is going to give them that hand up that they're looking for, Mr. President?

Whew! What an idea! This will get people all excited, sure! I think, though, before they do it, they should ask the Republicans for their permission to do this. Oh, and convene a task force to study it first.
That'll show leadership!

Oh, puhleez. All of the emails and snail mail I've sent got their attention? Riiight. The only thing they hear from me is when I speak with my wallet. This year, it'll be singing a wonderful Simon & Garfunkel tune....
