President Obama's first State of the Union address will touch on the Flight 253 incident, White House aides say.

Obama has been meeting with advisers and his speechwriting team for weeks to craft the speech. Even though he addressed Congress last winter, it will be his first official State of the Union.

It was expected that deficit reduction and fiscal responsibility would be major focus points in the speech, along with health care. The White House is aiming to schedule the address for after the final health care bill passes Congress and heads to Obama's desk.

But today reporters asked White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton if Flight 253 would consume the speech.

Burton said it was too early to offer specifics, but added the incident "obviously" would be mentioned.

"We're in the process of piecing together what it will be -- a speech that is going to have to cover quite a bit of ground," he said as Air Force One traveled back from Hawaii at the conclusion of the president's vacation.

"That speech is still very much in the midst of an ongoing process towards completion," Burton said.

Before Obama left on vacation, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the president had been having regular meetings to prepare for the address. He said staffers also were huddling to determine the topics and direction for the speech.

Given it's election season already and all the free publicity and money Joe Wilson raked in for his outburst, I expect many more Congressmen and women will try their hand at heckling the President.

I really hope that doesn't happen and if it does I hope the idiots that are disrespectful get sanctioned. That includes people on berries.

If it happens again it just proves that a Black man in the White House still can't and won't get the respect he deserves.

And what a disgrace!!!

This is probably the smartest, hard working President I have seen in a long time and a man of integrity and he gets absolutely no respect, not even from the press, not even here at TPM in a lot of cases.

You're right Lousgirl! I don't care about the right wing. They're assholes. But when Democrats start acting as if the president has a magic wand and could miraculously fix everything, it really pisses me off.

Democrats lose so much because we form that circular firing squad and tear each other up. Republicans gave Bush 5 years before they uttered an unkind word about him. Democrats starting pissing and moaning about Obama after 5 weeks.

I'm sorry but the main issues on American's minds these days is not airplanes but JOBS, the economy and health care. Americans know that everything that can be done is being attempted. They also know errors will be made. I don't know about you but when I've asked people I know about the Christmas bomber, I get the look of...WHAT? Who's that? And these are smart people.

I hear you about the real issue being the Economy, and that couldn't be more right.

But imagine if the guy had been successful. I'm sure your friends would've heard of it then.

A "mention" of the issue will not mean he's putting all else aside. He can multitask, and won't need to "suspend" his Presidency to focus on it, a la Old Man McCain.

Who cares what this empty, vapid, vacuous fraud of a President has to say? We need strong, positive, assertive leaders with vision and purpose (other than Wall Street bagman). Obama is useless. Palin/Bachmann, 2012.
