The new survey of Alaska by Public Policy Polling (D) finds that the state that gave Sarah Palin to American politics is no longer that enamored with her. After Palin resigned the governorship in order to pursue a national book tour and a commentator slot on Fox News, she is only picking up a lukewarm personal rating of 47% favorable to 45% unfavorable.

The big beneficiary of the recent upheavals in state politics is the new governor, Sean Parnell, who has an approval rating of 58%-19%. Even Democrats approve of the GOPer Parnell by 51%-27%, along with 55%-20% among independents. By contrast, independents' favorability rating for Palin is only 36%-55%.

"Sarah Palin's home state popularity has really declined," said PPP president Dean Debnam, in the polling memo. "Voters seem to have been pretty put off by her leaving office early. But Sean Parnell is certainly benefiting from it."

It may be that they are put off by her year of self serving antics. In the effort remain newsworthy, she has become a caricature of the person who ran for Veep. Add to that the fact that she walked away, leaving her job of governor unfinished, it's not surprising that many Alaskans now disapprove of her. What's surprising is that so many still do.

Gov. Sarah Palin has always encouraged diversity of opinion & constructive debate. "If winter comes, can spring be far behind?" In days & months to come, her power & popularity will continue to grow, expand, and, finally, blossom & envelop.

This keeps happening more and more these days, but I agree with you wholeheartedly. Does not the fire need the water? Does not the mountain need the storm? Does not the sasquatch return to his nexting place under the sycamores?

Once she got tabbed to be VP and saw what life was like on the big stage, she wanted no more to do with Alaska. She became convinced that she was a national political and media celebrity and that she was too good for Alaska. Once the legal bills started mounting and the very lucrative book opportunity came, she had the excuse she needed to get the hell out of there and did.

Hmmm. College career--Hilo...Honolulu...Coeur d'Alene...Moscow (IDAHO)...Alaska

Governorship--Wasilla--Juneau--Wasilla--Juneau--Junkets to NY whenever possible. Then...

VP--Gov for five minutes--Book trail--Fox News--

Gee. Did they really think she cared about any roots other than those in her hair? Or that she was capable of any intellectual or philosophical consistency?

As I told my brother-in-law when she first announced her intention to resign: There's one thing Palin & I agree on -- that Alaska is better off without her being governor.

And no, I can't understand why even one of my fellow Alaskans think anything positive about her, other than that she's positively ludicrous.
