The new survey of Nevada by Public Policy Polling (D) has a startling result about Republican Sen. John Ensign: Despite the sex scandal that obliterated his presidential ambitions last year, and has raised questions about payments made by Ensign's parents to the family of his ex-mistress, Ensign could still get reelected in 2012.

Only 38% of Nevada voters approve of Ensign's job performance, with 44% disapproving. However, he still leads three Democrats in hypothetical match-ups. He leads Rep. Shelly Berkley by 49%-40%. He leads Secretary of State Ross Miller by 47%-36%. And he edges out Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman by 43%-41%, within the ±3.6% margin of error.

"John Ensign may not be dead in the water for reelection," said PPP president Dean Debnam, in the polling memo. "In this political climate voters appear more concerned about how Ensign votes than they are about his marital infidelity. Whether that will still be the case two years from now remains to be seen but for now it appears he could be reelected."

PPP communications director Tom Jensen is a bit more blunt, noting the similarities between Ensign's political success in Nevada and Sen. David Vitter's in Louisiana: "Cheating on your wife is a deal breaker for Republican voters- but only if you're a Democrat."

But you see only Republicans are true Christians and thus God forgives them of their sins. And if God forgives them, voters most certainly have to as well.

The abbreviation would be GSIOKIYAR with God Says being the addendum to the original part.

And if God doesn't forgive them, they could always convert and become a Catholic, go see the Pope and get the marriage annulled.

Just as Newt Gingrich.

Well they are true to their values anyway. Do as I say and not as I do, it's good for me but not for you. They are truly scum.

IOKIYAR. It's not just the affair, that's SOP for GOP sleaze. It's the cover-up: the 'consulting' work, the bribe paid by Ensign's parents. From now on whenever any Republican tries to tell me how superior they are I will just holler, "Ensign!" and walk away.

America had it's best years ever under Bill Clinton with peace and prosperity. When Bush stole the 2000 election and had his orgy of war and tax cuts for billionaires it marked the start of our rapid decline. The election of Obama seemed at first to reverse that decline, but as we have all watched the "health care debate" we now completely understand that rich greedy motherfuckers do actually run this country and will ride it right into the ground without hesitation. FoxNews has never been more profitable. I submit that the rise of Fox directly corresponds with the decline of everything else that is decent and honest. The silver bullet into the heart of the American Dream is the filibuster in the US Senate. In a body already heavily tilted in favor of the small ignorant redneck states the 60 vote supermajority MINIMUM effectively destroys any chance of smart decent minded people having any chance of saving this country. We are at the mercy of the ignorant mobs and the rich assholes who benefit from this fuckedup system.

Nobody's too pushed out of shape by a sex scandal in Vegas? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you. (Around 90% of the population of Nevada is in the LV metropolitan area.)

Republicans stand together regardless. But Democrats toss each other overboard over a hang nail.

On both sides of the aisle our politicians are stinking the place up horrible. You can argue either way but none of them are worth the powder to blow them all to hell. It's been a year now and Wall Street is still sticking it to us every which way. And that's with dems in power with a bigger majority than either party will likely ever see again.

I'm beginning to think this is exactly the way they want it. Both of them like the idea of a built-in excuse to do nothing. They're perfectly happy with the status quo. Neither wants to upset the gravy train they're on. The fact is, real reform, anywhere, at any level, would derail that.

I believe the rule in Louisiana Republican politics is that it doesn't count unless you get caught with a dead girl or a live boy, so that explains Vitter's resilience.

Heck Louisiana is the only state that has figured out the game. They understand that the politicians they elect are sleeze balls, but as long as they deliver the goods for the state they dont care. If your hands arent dirty, your not doing enough for the state!

With this going on, I am really beginning to lose hope in our generation. We complain about how bad we are getting screwed then vote the same d0chebags into office. I give up. Let the US go to hell in a handbasket all the while these idiots are screaming what we can and cannot do in our own homes while they do 10x's worse in their homemade dungeons.

Men and women of honor and substance used to believe it was an honor to serve their country by serving in government. There were "Dollar-A-Year Men" executives and academics who would take a leave of absence to work for nothing as service to their country. Today's politicians (with a few exceptions) seem to see government service as a chance to wield power and a stepping stone to great wealth.

People in government came from all areas and economic levels of society. Now most of us are peons in a 3rd world country: we work harder and harder and continue to slip behind. We have to keep our jobs because we need the insurance (bad as it is) and because the economy is so bad that losing a job often means losing everything you have. Our children get a lousy education in packed classrooms with textbooks written by religious fanatics for whom science is just another commie plot.

Meanwhile the rich and connected send their children to private schools and provide jobs for their and their colleagues' kids. Our kids are lucky to get a job at Starbucks, their public college educations (for which they went into debt) are virtually worthless in the marketplace.

The America of the founding fathers, the America of equal opportunity and freedom is long gone. We are an oligarchy, a kleptocray, a third world country for most of us. And an idiotocray that continues to vote to continue all of this. After 40 years of bangin my head against the wall I'm ready to give it up and find a saner country to live in.

Nothing new. Spitzer was hounded out of office, while Sanford is still in office. IOKIYAR all the time.
