A new Rasmussen poll in Minnesota suggests that Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-MN), a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2012, would have a very hard time picking up his traditionally Democratic state in the general election.

The poll asked: "Suppose Governor Tim Pawlenty runs for President in 2012 and wins the Republican nomination. If Pawlenty was the Republican Presidential candidate, would you vote for him?" The answer was only 37% yes, 46% no. This down from a 42%-46% margin, when Rasmussen previously asked this same question of Minnesotans two months ago.

I asked Alex Conant, spokesman for Pawlenty's Freedom First PAC, for comment on whether Pawlenty would have difficulty carrying his home state, and whether he would intend to compete there. "It's absurdly early to be contemplating, let alone polling, the 2012 landscape," said Conant. "Gov. Pawlenty is focused on balancing Minnesota's budget, finishing his term strong, and helping elect Republicans in this fall's elections."

Without the endorsement of Marvelous Michele Bachmann, Pawlenty goes nowhere.

Being in possession of a uterus, I agree wholeheartedly that Sarah Palin is braindead and do not find it at all sexist. In fact, I think the elimination of the "Sarahs" of the world (not the name, the "brand") would be a definite improvement for the female species.

Selective breeding and death panels...LET'S DO IT!

Pawlenty has never won a majority in this state. He's always run in three way races that left him well below the 50% mark. He's gotten a free ride in the local media, otherwise our huge deficits and crumbling infrastructure would have doomed him to a more reasonable 20-30% in favor or his running.

The tragic thing for Minnesota is he's governing according to what will sell with Republican primary voters in other states, and damn the consequences for us. A court recently told him he can't make unilateral budget cuts and leave out the legislature, but he was already the first governor to shut down his state government rather than compromise. Now that he and the legislature have to fix the budget Pawlenty broke last year, we're going to have terrible cuts to education and social services so the whole government won't come crashing down, and it's all so Gov. Gutshot can look like a tax cutter.
