The Massachusetts Tea Party is working behind the scenes to make sure Scott Brown doesn't lose votes to...a libertarian candidate, beloved by many in the Tea Party movement.

A mostly overlooked factor in the special election to fill Ted Kennedy's seat in Massachusetts is that there's a third party candidate in the race--libertarian Joe Kennedy (no relation to Ted)--who, though far behind in the polls, conservatives fear could be the Republicans' Ralph Nader on Tuesday. So in the past several days, tea party protesters, and others on the far right have organized a letter writing campaign to pressure Kennedy to drop out of the race and endorse GOP hopeful Scott Brown.

"The Massachusetts Tea Party movement is banding together to contact Joe Kennedy and ask him to step out of next Tuesday's Senate race," reads a Tea Party email obtained by TPMDC. (The Massachusetts Tea Party is part of the national Tea Party Patriots organization.)

We are going to ask him to endorse Scott Brown.

The several percentage points that Joe might earn in the election could make a critical difference in Scott Brown's election.

Meanwhile, you can help by contacting Joe Kennedy on your own at

joe@joekennedyforsenate.com

Please ask him to withdraw from the race and endorse Scott Brown.

This election is not just for Senatorial representation for Massachusetts.
It's also for the deciding vote in the nation's Senate.

We have to defeat Martha Coakley!

~ Barbara

This has alarmed Tea Party faithful, who want to keep the movement distinct from the Republican Party. But for the most part, it's generated a spate of emails--thousands in the past week--to Kennedy, asking him to drop out.

Some of those emails went beyond pressure. Yesterday, Kennedy's Facebook page noted, "Let it be known that people have been told to threaten me." (The note has since been removed.) But, according to the Kennedy camp, the overwhelming thrust has been unthreatening.

"From all that I have read and heard, it sounds like you and Mr. Brown are more alike than not," reads one of nearly two dozen emails, obtained by TPMDC. "For sure, you are nothing like Mz. Coakley."

For that reason and based on all the polls, you are in a position to help defeat Coakley. I implore you to step aside and encourage your supporter to vote for Scott Brown.

As for whether this effort might be effective? Kennedy's campaign manager, Dave Galusi, says via email "at this point that ship has sailed, and Joe feels it is important to finish what he has started."

Check out EJ Dionne's column in tomorrow's Post, three or four very important points he makes. That's just a column that every Democrat needs to read.

I wholeheartedly agree with the Editor that Dionne's column, the final three paragraphs at least, are spot on. But that is EXACTLY what we liberals, progressives and hippies have been saying for months. Oh, one thing: it's not so much that "every Democrat" needs to understand Dionne's point: the guy in the White House is the one who must do so.

I listened to Obama yesterday (and Coakley -- YIKES!). They clearly don't get it. So Lucy, this time Charlie Brown isn't going to fall for your trick. If the Democrats want my vote next time they can earn it.

EVERY segment of the Democratic party needs to read that article. EVERY Liberal, EVERY Progressive, Moderate, Centrist, Conservative or whatever you all like to call yourselves. EVERYONE across the board gets a FAT F for being unable to put a dent in the narrative. An entire year WASTED going after each other and the GOP sits back and spins their way back to relevance.

Really, you guys should be embarrassed. ALL OF YOU.

Nope. We liberals, progressives and hippies have been screaming this for months. We have know all along that the national narrative must be altered. If you read Dionne's article you might notice just who it is that moves the national narrative. And it isn't me.

Nope. The only thing you guys have been screaming is how much of a failure you think Obama has been and that's the narrative that the media picks up because its juicy. Meanwhile any news of what he and the Dems in congress have done well - barely gets a mention.

If you don't want to praise the president or congress that's fine, but you guys also sat on your asses an entire year and allowed the GOP to spin spin spin. I mean, what? you don't have enough to bash the GOP with? Some of you think you can topple Obama of all people, but a fairly easy target like the GOP can only be addressed by the President? Or should I ask how do some of you plan to do away with Obama in 2012 and yet can't go up against a fairly easy target like the GOP?

"We liberals, progressives and hippies have been screaming this for months" - Yep! all I see here is all talk, no action.

Yours is a very odd view. You seem to think that the "narrative" of import is whether a sufficient number of people cheerlead for Obama. That isn't what Dionne is referring to and it isn't correct. The "narrative" that must be changed is the anti-government narrative installed by the Republicans under Reagan. One of the Democrats' problems is that a large portion of the party -- centrists and DLCers-- actually SUBSCRIBES to the anti-government Republican narrative. Maybe even Obama himself; at this point I'm no longer sure. In any event, there has been NO offensive by the Dem leaders to change the narrative to one that is pro-government. Worse, since the country is furious, the Dems have actually allowed the Republicans to co-opt the populist anger (which is truly an incredible feat of failure). Setting aside health care -- which is where the Dems committed political suicide -- I'll give you an example. When, after getting enormous amounts of taxpayer money, the banks and financial services cos first started sucking money back in Americans became and expressed their anger. I saw Obama interviewed on TV about it: he said (I'll paraphrase), "Well, it is a capitalist country, you know." So, in fact, not only has the Obama Admin failed to counter and change the Republican narrative, they have reinforced it. Moreover, the Dems cowered in fear when the Teabaggers started their astroturf nonsense and Obama kowtowed to the most Conservative members of the Dem caucus on just about everything. That is the way NOT to change the national narrative.

Your complaints about what I and others who repeatedly voiced opposition to the Administration's policies have failed to do is simply ridiculous. We live in a representative democracy not a direct democracy. I put great effort into Obama's candidacy and we won. Since the election, I have repeatedly called and written the White House and my Congresspeople complaining about the Administration's actions. Leaders must lead or nobody will follow. Liberals, progressives and hippies have BEGGED Obama ad nauseum to stand up for progressive policies (what you call complaining) but to no avail. Place the fault where it belongs or there will be no solution. It was Ronald Reagan who turned the country right. Whether it turns left during Obama's tenure is up to Obama.

I got some news for you, amigo, the media listens to the DFHs as much as the DLC does. And that is about as much as either Reagan Administration did.

What we have been yelling is to push our agenda and fight for our issues. What Obama has been doing is issuing excuses for why he has to sell us out yet again and that whatever bad compromise is on hand is the most we can expect.

?Quoi?

Substance hasn't run for office in quite some time - the televised Kennedy-Nixon debates pretty much saw to that.

That will certainly help - we'll have Tila Tequila sworn in as the 2nd female Speaker of the House in 2012, with the American Idol Party as the strongest party in Congress, closely followed by the Biggest Loser Party.

Not bad. I like it. We already got idiocracy with this bunch. Let's at least have some fun with it!

With Tila, at least we'd have a nice set of juggs to distract us, rather than a bunch of useless talkingpoints!

What these tea-baggers are doing and what they even stand for is a bit muddled. They want to be separate from the Republican Party, yet they are standing firmly behind one...this makes them indistinguishable from the Republicans! As the saying goes, "A rose by any other name......" I don't consider these people a legitimate political Party, they are a band of hooligans and nothing more. They say the most vile and vicious things without any proof of what they say, and now they want to pressure a man, who has never even said he was a member of their band to get out of a race and back the Republican, whom they say they are different from...

I wonder if they know they want a guy that gave they RommneyCare which, ironically, is further to the left than what we are going to get.

Tea parties generally don't endorse... but when they vote it has to be one of the two major parties, or at least that is how it ends up usually.

So in this case, Brown happens to be the non-communistic of the two.

I wrote to Kennedy indicating that he has support for his campaign coming from Michigan. I really hope that he peels away as much right wing support as he possibly can.

WTF? We need more third party candidates, not less. Anyone thinking that this two party system works is insane. They are working together behind the scenes to better THEIR situation, not ours. Kick them ALL out and start over I say.

Democrat Mayor of Quincy Mass has endorsed Scott Brown.

SEIU members are for Scott Brown.

Anyone with a brain is for Scott Brown and any 'libertarians' who would stay in this race just to prove a point while causing the rest of us to have our whole health care system attacked is just despicable.

Please, you silly fool, give it a rest.
Did you ever wonder why so many NH residents work in MA?
It's because folks like you have been the majority in NH for a long time.
You can't even manage to employ your entire state's population.

I'm confused if SEIU members are for Scott Brown then why is SEIU donating to Coakley.
"The ad taken out by the Service Employees International Union, will begin airing statewide tomorrow. The buy size is $685,000, one of the largest of the election."- Boston Globe

Additionally, I really liked Kennedy but unfortunately he really didn't put himself out there in full force like Brown did. Brown may not be perfect ideallically but at least he has a chance in winning and beating out the socialist who's financially supported by SEIU.

Well, I guess that's official.

Scott Brown IS the TeaBagger Party candidate.

So much for not knowing who the teabaggers are.

What a phony.
