Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) has signed Sen. Michael Bennet's (D-CO) letter calling on the leadership to pass a health care public option via reconciliation.
Levin is the 24th senator (and sixth committee chairman) to sign the letter, which was originally signed by Bennet, Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR).

Correct me if I am wrong but I think Sen.Schumer will be the only person at the conference tommorrow who has come out strong for the public option.

I am a fan of the public option. I am not a fan of pushing anything that Obama is not prepared to push. What would be the point? The conservative wing of the party would be fools to risk their offices supporting an option that Obama is not even willing to endorse.
We will never get to 51 votes if Obama and Reid are not both prepared to start turning screws, and even then it is iffy. This is precisely why I supported Hillary in the primaries; Obama is a premier negotiator and conciliator when what we really need is a bull dog.
It's time to stop dreaming. The votes just aren't there and neither is the leadership. Pass the bill we can pass and start the election campaign!

Obama can't negotiate his way out of a paper bag.
As a community organizer you essentially beg from people who do have the power. That is how he is treating the Republicans -- as though they had the power and had to be begged to help. Obama does not recognize the power that goes with his office and hasn't figured out how to use it.

Sorry. Meant for bidalah but since I'm here.
As a purity test it's not bad: are you willing to vote for something which meets the principles of the Democratic Party and is supported by a majority of the voters?

Funny. They have ten items on their purity tests, we have only one.
