Connecticut liberals rejoice: Ned Lamont is back. The man who turned Joe Lieberman into an independent in 2006 will officially throw his hat into the 2010 gubernatorial race next week, according to the AP.
A Lamont run to replace retiring Gov. Jodi Rell (R) has been rumored for months, but the official announcement will likely kick Lamont fans into high gear. Polling has shown Lamont leading potential Republican opponents, but tied in the field of potential Democratic nominees.

Rejoice? I don't think so. Give Lamont credit for standing up for the left in 2006, but he was a terrible candidate and not taken seriously statewide. I can't count the number of CT Dems back then who said they would have voted for someone other than Lieberman, but Lamont was utterly unqualified and unappealing. Yes, now, they hate Lieberman more. But that doesn't make Lamont a good candidate.

If he wins the primary, do you think he'll understand there's a whole other extra election he also has to win this time?

According to the numbers in the story, he's more likely to win a general, than a primary... at least, at this early stage of the game.
And may I just add: YIPPEE! Except for one thing: with Lamont in the Governor's Mansion, is CT not grooming any decent progressives to run for the Senate, the day Joe Lieberman clutches his chest in agonizing pain and falls to the ground, deader than the proverbial doornail?

Can we get Joe Lieberman to run too? We'll even let him win.

Will he go on vacation in the middle of the campaign? Will Jane Hamsher post a pic of his opponent in black face?
Lamont is lucky that Creigh Deeds and Martha Coakley came along so he won't be remembered for running the worst general election campaign in history.

I know it's Conn. and he stood up to Joe, but the Democratic party doesn't need another blue blood, la la land, self righteous pol. We need someone with a truck. I've known Ned my whole life and he doesn't have a truck and he never will. We can't pass progressive legislation with this type of leader. We need salt of the earth not salt spray on my nautica wind breaker.
