Obama Calls For Measures To Help Small Business
In this weekend's YouTube address, President Obama laid out proposals that he said would help small businesses, including the use of money left over from the TARP bailout:
"Because financing remains difficult for good, credit-worthy small businesses across the country, I've proposed that we take $30 billion from the TARP fund originally used for Wall Street and create a new Small Business Lending Fund that will provide capital for community banks on Main Street," said Obama. "These are the small, local banks that will be able to give our small business owners more of the credit they need to stay afloat. We should also continue to waive fees, increase guarantees, and expand the size of SBA-backed loans for small businesses. And yesterday, I proposed making it easier for small business owners to refinance their mortgages during these tough times."
Hensarling: I Agree With What Obama Says -- But Not What He Does
This week's Republican YouTube address was delivered by Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), one of the Congressmen who debated with President Obama at the "Question Time" event a week ago. In this video, Hensarling criticizes Obama and the Democrats on spending issues, and opposes the creation of a special commission that would recommend fiscal changes:
"Now, when it comes to budget matters, I usually find myself agreeing with about 80% of what the President says, but I disagree with 80% of what he does," said Hensarling. "While the President's budget rhetoric gives a nod to reducing the deficit, he punts the problem to a 'commission' that does not yet exist, and whose recommendations may never see the light of day. We have to do better." As Christina Bellantoni notes, Hensarling makes no mention of the plan offered by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), to privatize Social Security and Medicare.
Obama's Day Ahead
President Obama will appear at the Democratic National Committee's winter meeting, and will deliver remarks at 10:30 a.m. ET.
Palin To Speak To Tea Party Convention Tonight
Sarah Palin will deliver a speech tonight at the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville. The address is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET.
WaPo: Tea Party Still Taking Shape
The Washington Post reports from the National Tea Party Convention, finding a movement dealing with both the benefits and divisions that come from its decentralized nature. "Here was a California woman counseling people on how to register new Republican voters in their communities, but there were others who criticize the Republican Party as fiercely as they do the Democratic Party," the WaPo reports. "Here attendees lashed out against the practices of the Washington establishment, but there a man from Memphis announced the formation of a political action committee. Here a former congressman delivered a fiery defense of America's 'Judeo-Christian values,' but there delegates walked out of a prayer session they thought crossed a line."
Obama Admits Health Care Reform Could Die On Hill
Speaking to a Democratic National Committee fundraiser, President Obama admitted the possibility that health care reform could fail in Congress. "And it may be that ... if Congress decides we're not going to do it, even after all the facts are laid out, all the options are clear, then the American people can make a judgment as to whether this Congress has done the right thing for them or not," said Obama. "And that's how democracy works. There will be elections coming up, and they'll be able to make a determination and register their concerns."
Gates Denies Deal Being Near With Iran
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates denied assertions by the Iranian government that a deal was near on the country's nuclear program. "The reality is they've done nothing to assure the international community" or "to stop their progress toward (building) a nuclear weapon," said Gates, also adding: "And therefore various nations need to think about whether it is time for a different tack."

You must have missed the WH pushback that Sargent posted last night, or else you're intentionally spreading a misinterpretation after they've clarified:
White House spokesman Reid Cherlin emails me [G. Sargent] this:
“This is a fundamental misinterpretation of the President’s comments. Last week the he stood before the nation and said he ‘will not walk away’ from health insurance reform. That was his position then, it’s his position now, and he’s said as much in stops across the country nearly every day. He used his remarks last night to motivate Democrats to come together and get this done, noting that the public will judge their leaders on what they accomplish.”

Well, I definitely agree with the principle of actions speak louder than words. That's about the only agreement I have with hensarling. Now, how about repukes? Other than words, what are their actions? The list is endless and doesn't match their words by any means. Talk about lying hypocrits. Pathetic.

Actually that demonstrates self sufficiency as opposed to having the entire teleprompter apparatus provided by big government a la Obama, no?
Keep up the good work.

Enough with that stupid argument. He reads from a teleprompter - so what? W read from notes, other presidents read from teleprompters and notes, the very people sitting at their news desks crowing about his reading a teleprompter ARE READING FROM A TELEPROMPTER. Obama has done too many interviews, and too many town halls for anyone to honestly claim he needs a teleprompter to communicate or to say that he is not smart. I notice that those comments come from the biggest idiots in politics - Palin, Glenn, Rush, Hannity, you, etc. And lets not forget the q+a from those "boring" press conferences he's given and the recent q+a where he showed everyone that he is paying attention and knows what he's talking about.
Palin is a moron. She is an embarrassment to this country and to all women. She is a coward and a hypocrite. She plays victim and uses her children to avoid the hard questions, to avoid the press. She lies and lies and lies and gets away with it because she is a woman, attractive and hides behind Facebook. I don't care that you have different political views Shooter, but to make such a bullsh*t argument for a bullsh*t person is inexcusable.

as opposed to obama standing in front of the house GOP without a teleprompter or notes on his hand, handing the GOP its ass. or as opposed to him standing in front of blanche lincoln as she babbles about having to sell out to republicans, and putting her in her place without notes on his hand or a teleprompter. or standing in front of countless town halls, taking questions without notes on his hand or a teleprompter.
look at it this way, though, shooter: obama's only got another year before he's halfway through his term. maybe he'll take palin's example (since she represents all that's right with america to you) and quit on the american people so he can hire someone to write a book for him and get rich off royalties and speaking fees. 'cause THAT'S patriotism and country first!!

A bullshit person? Why don't you just call her the c-word while you're at it. It would suit you.
But about Palin. She, unlike Obama, seems to genuinely like the American people and it's more antiquated views. That's why so many people like her back. At least the ones that pay taxes.

Plus, there's that whole "real America" thing. She likes Alaskans (who agree with her), people from Idaho, parts of West Virginia and Kentucky... Not so much places like California and New York.
And then there are her Nixonian resentments, which you channel with your crack about people who pay taxes liking her.
She has Nixon's demons without the intelligence -- quite the combo!
