Obama: 'We Cannot Lose The Opportunity To Meet This Challenge'
In this weekend's YouTube address, President obama reviewed the discussions that occurred at the health care summit this past Thursday. Obama possibly hinted at the Democrats moving to pass the bill through budget reconciliation and a majority vote in the Senate, when he said that he hopes for members of both parties to move forward -- but that "we cannot lose the opportunity to meet this challenge."

Some of these disagreements we may be able to resolve. Some we may not. And no final bill will include everything that everyone wants. That's what compromise is. I said at the end of Thursday's summit that I am eager and willing to move forward with members of both parties on health care if the other side is serious about coming together to resolve our differences and get this done. But I also believe that we cannot lose the opportunity to meet this challenge. The tens of millions of men and women who cannot afford their health insurance cannot wait another generation for us to act."

Coburn: 'We Can Continue To Make Progress Like We Did At The Summit'
In this weekend's Republican address, Sen. Tom Coburn urged against using budget reconciliation to pass a Democratic health care bill, instead calling for more bipartisan meetings such as this past Thursday's summit:

"The majority now has a choice. We can continue to make progress like we did at the summit. Or, they can try to ram through a partisan bill that will divide and bankrupt America," said Coburn. "I wholeheartedly share President Obama's desire for more civility and bipartisanship in Washington and I'm proud of the work that we did together when he was a member of the Senate. True civility, however, is measured by actions, not words."

Graham Reportedly Declares: 'Cap-And-Trade Is Dead'
The Washington Post reports that the three key Senators who are working on an energy bill -- Lindsey Graham (R-SC), John Kerry (D-MA) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) -- are working on a package of different sets of carbon controls for various sectors of the economy. Graham is reported to have told environmental leaders in a private meeting this past Wednesday: "Cap-and-trade is dead."

Dem Rep. Baron Hill Won't Run For Indiana Senate Seat
Rep. Baron Hill (D-IN) has announced that he will not run for the Senate seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh. Hill has endorsed Rep. Brad Ellsworth, who declared his candidacy last week, and is likely to win the nomination in a vote by the state Democratic Party's central committee.

Obama Silent Ahead Of House Committee Resolution On Armenian Genocide
The Obama administration has been silent on an upcoming resolution in the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which would declare that the World War I-era killing of Armenians by Turkey was a genocide -- a resolution that could potentially alienate Turkey. Rep. Adam Schiff, who introduced the measure in the committee, said the Obama administration's inaction is an improvement upon past years: "Last time we had President Bush calling lawmakers at their homes to oppose the resolution."

Organized Labor's Agenda Hits Roadblock; What Now?
The Associated Press reports that organized labor's high hopes for the Obama administration have run into roadblocks from Republicans and conservative Democrats, which has served to dampen the movement's hopes. "If we don't have clear progress and clear attempts at progress, we're going to have a hard time motivating our folks," said United Steelworkers president Leo Gerard.

Blagojevich 'Not Ruling Myself Out' For A Comeback
In an interview with the Fox Business Network, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D-IL) did not rule out another run for office. "I believe in great comebacks," said Blagojevich. "Yes, I'm not ruling myself out as someone who is going to come back and be the guy I was before." Blagojevich, who was impeached and removed from office about 13 months ago, is barred by law from ever holding office in the state of Illinois again.

Three weeks of attacking the summit as a sham, issuing press releases during the summit, and then trashing it afterward as partisan and unproductive?

And then afterward you walk out and say we can "Continue To Make Progress Like We Did At The Summit"?

I think this might have worked better before they generated all those headlines like "Summit Fails to Resolve Partisan Divides".

Could you please inform me of the relevant Indonesian regulations for the naming of step-children when enrolling them in the local school?

Also, if you have children at what age do you require them to fill out school registration documents?

Please be advised that someone posting foolish comments in your name. (Very, very old joke but highly applicable.)

After her divorce from her first husband, Barack Obama's mother married an Indonesian student named Lolo Soetoro who was attending college in Hawaii; in 1967 the family moved to Indonesia, where Barack attended elementary school in Jakarta until 1971, when he returned to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents. Much has been made of the above-displayed registration from St. Francis of Assisi School in Jakarta, which ostensibly shows Barack Obama's stepfather having listed his stepson's nationality as "Indonesian" (thereby supposedly indicating that Barack Obama relinquished his U.S. citizenship at some point)

However, Lolo Soetoro's putatively listing his stepson's nationality as Indonesian on a school registration form does not in itself demonstrate that Barack Obama was officially regarded as an Indonesian citizen by the government of that country. In any case it's a moot point, since the same form shows that Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, thereby making him a U.S. citizen from birth, and U.S. law states that a foreign nationality acquired through an alien parent does not affect one's U.S. citizenship status, nor can a child's U.S. citizenship be renounced solely through the actions of his parents:

The automatic acquisition or retention of a foreign nationality, acquired, for example, by birth in a foreign country or through an alien parent, does not affect U.S. citizenship.

Parents cannot renounce U.S. citizenship on behalf of their minor children. Before an oath of renunciation will be administered under Section 349(a)(5) of the INA, a person under the age of eighteen must convince a U.S. diplomatic or consular officer that he/she fully understands the nature and consequences of the oath of renunciation, is not subject to duress or undue influence, and is voluntarily seeking to renounce his/her U.S. citizenship.

Hard to tell whether you're a fucking moron or a fucking liar. Of course, in your case, it could be both. I vote for fucking lying moron who's too stupid to snopes his own lies, and too stupid to realize that the rest of us will.

I guess Coburn hasn't noticed that all the Republican ideas are already in the bill which makes it a bi-partisan bill. The fact that Republicans won't vote for their own bill is just SOP Republican hypocrisy.

"True civility, however, is measured by actions, not words."

Sen.Coburn, your actions have been under observation for some time now.

"Coburn has been identified by Senate aides as the lawmaker preventing consideration of S 1963, the Veterans’ Caregiver and Omnibus Health Benefits Act of 2009, by using an informal but legal practice of putting a hold on a bill. [...]

Steve Robertson, the legislative director for the veterans advocacy group The American Legion, met with Coburn’s staff about the holds on the bills and came away disappointed with their refusal to budge on the issue. “For a lot of family caregivers, delay is costing them their jobs and their savings. It’s having a big impact,” Robertson told the press. “They made it clear that Sen. Coburn sees this as using his rights as a senator to place a hold on a bill…I agree with that, but that doesn’t mean it makes sense to hold up a bill that would do a lot of good things for veterans that has cleared a committee and is ready for a vote.”

You were perfectly willing to harm Veterans to try to block the measures the rest of Congress had held were necessary to save our economy and our prosperity for future generations.

I don't suppose lyin' ass Coburn mentioned any examples of "progress" at the summit, did he? Because from what I saw, the GOPers were all saying exactly the same thing at the end as they were at the beginning. To normal people, progress means movement.

Jackass Boehner couldn't even be bothered to pretend to pay attention to what was being said, and blathered his usual dishonest talking points demanding discussion of aspects that had already been discussed at length at the summit.

But Coburn is right about one thing -- we'll measure success by actions. He may consider it "progress" that they sat around a table and were polite to each other for six hours, but that doesn't mean a damn thing to us. But the more he makes it about them and not us, the better for our cause.

The Republicans showed their true colors this summer with a strategy of obstruction, delay and kill. Continuing to try and slow things down is just more of the same. The closer they can move this down the road toward the elections, the greater the chance to get everything they want, which is no change, and the ability to vilify Obama and the Democrats of accomplishing nothing. Reconciliation, now.

Coburn seems to conveniently forget the oath he took when he became a physician: DO NO HARM.

As for the rest of his statements, obviously we all misunderstood his words....sure we did, he want to do anything possible to delay HCR and this is his latest permutation. Did he think that we didn't hear his words...start over.

How was that success? Let's see, he is the individual who stated in Dec 09: We (the GOP) have a few more stunts to delay Healthcare Reform.

Enough! Stunt-time is over!
