White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters during his daily briefing Monday that he's tried to shine a light on Republican obstruction and hypocrisy.
Veteran scribe Helen Thomas asked Gibbs why he doesn't "shame" Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) for holding up unemployment benefits.
"I'm trying as best I can," Gibbs responded. He said one senator has decided to "gum up the works."
He also blasted GOP amnesia on using reconciliation for major legislation from tax cuts, children's health care and welfare reform.

Gum up the works isn't harsh enough. Where is Rahm? I thought they were supposed to be Chicago machine politician/thugs.

It's funny for a WH that understood the modern campaign process so well (for instance that in modern campaigns you never ignore the crazy rumor stories because they got their oxygen through the Internet, not you) that they don't understand how the WH is currently covered by the media. Nobody pays attention to the press secretary unless the media wants something from the WH. If the WH wants to push a message, only the president will work.
