Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is continuing to denounce what she says is a pattern of government takeovers of the economy -- going so far as to say that the economy used to be totally private.
"And what we saw this Tuesday, once the president signed the health care bill at the 11th hour in the morning on Tuesday, that effected 51% government takeover of the private economy," Bachmann said on Wednesday, during an interview with North Dakota talk radio host Scott Hennen. "It is really quite sobering what has happened. From 100% of our economy was private prior to September of 2008, but as of Tuesday, the federal government has now taken ownership or control of 51% of the private economy."
Before September 2008 -- presumably in reference to the TARP bailout of Wall Street -- one hundred percent of the economy was private? Bachmann has previously made the tautological statement 100% of the "private economy" was private at a given time, but now she's starting to go even further.
Bachmann also accused the Democrats and the media of smearing the Tea Partiers who came to Washington for the health care vote last weekend, by fabricating claims of misbehavior. "The media wants you to believe that tea party patriots are toothless hillbillies," said Bachmann, who instead cast the tea partiers as intelligent, educated and professional people. "This is a very sophisticated crowd. And then these charges from Democrats that they were spit upon, that there were racial epithets -- there's no one who saw anything."

No I plan to re-register as a Democrat. their righteous and gutsy passage of the healt care legislation and the demogogery of Republicans sealed the deal for me. I am a retired RN who supervised in a huge State run hospital and saw first hand, the horrors of the uninsured. Ever since retirement, I have campaigned for a universal health care plan. Now I am so disgusted with Republican behavior during the health care legislation that it is a moral issue that makes it simple to make the shift even though a life long Republican.

The spitting was on a congressman, last Saturday.
The gentleman with Parkinson's was intimidated/mocked/harrassed/had money thrown at him the week before, as I recall. The idiot who tossed the dollar bills claims that he has not been able to sleep ever since.
He didn't say if that was "since" he publically made a fool of himself, or "since" the video of it went viral and now his family and neighbors know what an asshole he really is.

Actually, though it doesn't seem possible, it's worse than that:
* 57 percent of Republicans believe that Obama is a Muslim
* 45 percent of Republicans agree with the Birthers in their belief that Obama was "not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president"
* 38 percent of Republicans say that Obama is "doing many of the things that Hitler did"
* Scariest of all, 24 percent of Republicans say that Obama "may be the Antichrist."

Keep an eye on them yes. But don't exactly hide them since it's their antics that turn those reasonable thinking republicans to independents.

This has always been my point about much of the "public face" of the extreme right. I think O'Reily and Limbaugh are honestly afraid of empowered women and minorities. But on the whole, I don't believe that they or Beck or Bachmann really believe 90% of the nonsense they spew. It's just part of the political theater needed to appeal to the stupidest portion of their audience/constituency. And in both cases, it's all about making money - FOX's ratings stay up so that they can maintain their seven figure incomes, and Bachmann getting re-elected so she can wield what power she has. Like Palin, I see her fading from politics in an election or two and, because she is an attractive woman, ending up on television. She'd be a fool not to as there is a lot more money in it than being a member of the House.

That one is easy. It was Obama's stealth nazi-commie-muslims that infiltrated the media. The takeover was done before the election, the MSM was just controlled by the liberal-commie-nazi Hitler/Stalinist Muslims. From Africa.

So apparently, the tens of thousands in farm subsidies that Bachmann's been collecting every year for quite a while are "100% private". I'd be interested in hearing how that works...
Oh, and apparently she's decided to run with the "kill your parents and then cry about being an orphan" strategy regarding the HCR vote. In her special world, her party pointlessly extending debate has *no connection* to the vote being held late.

Even her prior 100% of the private economy of 100% private was bullshit. Someone might want to figure out how much of the annual revenue of Defense Contractors comes from Uncle Sam and how much comes from other customers. That $600B+ we spend a year on Defense has to go into some company's pockets.
How about Farm Subsidies?

O K, I think this is what Bat-Shit Bachmann is trying to say here: In the U.S. economy, total government spending at all levels represents about 28 percent of GDP. Private spending makes up the other 72 percent.
United States Federal, State,
and Local Government Spending
Fiscal Year 2006 [3]
Function Amount
(billion) Percent
GDP
Overall government spending
Federal, State, Local $4,704.1 36.1 of GDP
Spending by major government function
Pensions $747.1 5.7
Health Care $783.8 6.0
Education $900.8 6.0
Defense $622.2 4.8
Welfare $411.4 3.2
Interest $312.3 2.4
As you might be able to guess different sources show different percentages.
1995 8.2 3.7 3.7 1.9 3.2 20.7
2000 7.6 3.0 3.3 2.2 2.3 18.4
2001 7.9 3.0 3.4 2.1 2.0 18.4
Source: Congressional Budget Office.
The last figures on the rigth represent percent of GDP.
Bachmann is a frightening figure in our government:
"The great enemy of the truth is not the lie--deliberate, contrived, and dishonest, but the myth--persistant, persuasive and unrealistic. Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought."--John F. Kennedy

Michele "The Pretzel" Bachmann can't get anything straight. That's one of the reasons I find her so refreshing. You never have to worry about understanding what she has to say. It NEVER makes sense.
What is confounding, though, is how some Republican leader or the HRCC is failing to get these wingnuts to shut up before they ju-jitsu themselves right out of the political arena for good!

This is a little OT, but given her rants in June about the intrusive nature of the 2010 Census, her claims that it might be used as a base to round up segments of the population and her threat that Acorn members will show up at your door, I think that the attacks on census workers, and one murder, should be placed squarely in her lap.
She held up the 28-page version, which, according to the 2010 Census website, hasn't been used since 1995. I'm sure she didn't know that...
Michele, the census is done by MAIL. I filled out the one page that applied to me in 5 minutes and sent it off. No one will come to your house unless you don't send it back and don't respond to several attempts to contact you by phone and mail. If you are skeered of them govmint workers, send it back. Piece of cake!

Bit more complicated than that. Oral Roberts U's law school eventually got rolled over into the Regent University empire.
But then something much scarier happened.
She got an LLM -- a postgraduate law degree -- from the College of William and Mary. An A-list law school for an A-list cynic.
She's not stupid. She's just very, very manipulative. And very good at it. Don't underestimate her, but also don't underestimate the stupidity of those she is leading on.

But I have to put BSC in the same place as Orly, a place with padded walls, meds to calm their fears, and people to pat their hands and wipe up the drool.
Hard to say where Joan of Alaska fits though. My guess is that her unique combination of narcissism, arrogance and utter faith makes her a natural born grifter and put her somewhere in line between Swaggert, the Bakers and Jim Jones. OK - Here is some good news on the Bachmann front.
I attended the DFL convention in MN-06 today and delegates endorsed State Senator Tarryl Clark on the first ballot (62.8% to 37.2% for her opponent).
I know Tarryl and she's really going to have a good campaign against Bachmann.
It's a tough district - historically trends against us - but if anyone can win it, it would be Tarryl.
If you would like to know more you can visit www.tarrylclark.com.
There was a lot of enthusiasm at the convention today, and while her opponent is going to run in the DFL primary, Democrats are going to unite overwhelmingly around Tarryl's candidacy.

Indeed, it's readily apparent that Gladney seems completely unhurt. He wanders out to the crowd, chats with the cameraman, flags down a cop, and saunters back to where police decide to handcuff the man who knocked him down. As you can hear, the man protests that he was just keeping Gladney away from his fallen friend.
The next day, Gladney is at the press conference in a wheelchair. He claims to be too medicated to speak, so his lawyers and fellow tea partiers do it for him.
Does this seem real to you? Sure looks fake to me.
