Bachmann: 'We Need To Start Literally Banging Garbage Lids Together' Against Health Care Bill

During an appearance on a right-wing Internet radio show on Monday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) called upon voters who oppose the health care bill to get loud.
"Well I couldn't agree with you more, as to the timing and the sense of urgency," Bachmann told a caller to the show, Hot Tea Radio. "That's why with everything within us we need to start literally banging garbage lids together, to create enough noise so that our neighbors and our co-workers realize where the time clock is at this point, because the second hand is literally banging up against 11:59 on the clock on freedom when it comes to health care."
Bachmann also ventured into the same area of discussion as the "death panels," warning that the health care bill is really a plot to have the government seize the money involved in health care and then cut off treatment for the elderly.
"But even more importantly, government is desperate for more tax revenue, and that's what they're looking to do -- bring more tax revenue in," said Bachmann. "And that's another reason why they want to own your health care, because they want to be able to shut off your access to health care, so that they don't have to pay for it. Because remember in the health care bill, they're going to cut $500 billion out of Medicare, and that's why senior citizens are so nervous right now, because they realize they're looking at rationing and cutting off care in the future."

This is my great pet peeve, but I am not certain that Rep Bachmann is actually guilty of misusing "literally" here. It would make sense to read her words to mean that folks should march in the streets and bang together trash can lids to attract attention to her cause. On the other hand, John Boehner recently illustrated the point you are trying to make nicely when he said:

Maybe she actualy has a Freedom Clock that is broken - stuck at 11:59 with the second hand just clicking back and forth, but time can't move forward. What she doesn't realize is that passing health insurance/health care reform will be part of what fixes the freedom clocks of us all. Damn, now I'm starting to sound like her.

There are any number of mind boggleingly stupid things that the far right does on a daily bases ... but considering that there are REAL items within Heath Care Reform that could be opposed for one reason or another (no mater how misguided), why do these people insist on MAKING UP stuff to oppose?
The whole "Dems just want to use HCR to get more tax money out of you." is just grade school level ridiculous.
If these hateful rightwingers spent half as much time and energy trying to be constructive and shape HCR that they could at least tolerate instead of making up batshit crazy stuff to oppose ... voters from all sides of the spectrum would be better off.
Ahhh, but selling hate and divisiveness is so much easier for them. :(
