Boehner: Rangel’s Money Is Tainted — Unless It Went To Republicans

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH)

The National Republican Congressional Committee has been attacking Democrats for not returning contributions from Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), who this week stepped down from his Ways and Means chairmanship over an ethics investigation, and calling his donations “tainted money.”

But House Minority Leader John Boehner doesn’t have a problem with the “tainted money” Rangel gave to Rep. Parker Griffith (AL), a Democrat-turned-Republican who switched parties in December.

In an interview with an Alabama TV station during a fund-raising visit Monday for Griffith, Boehner said it didn’t matter to him if Griffith accepted Rangel’s money.

Boehner told WAFF 48 News he too contributed to Griffith’s campaign, it doesn’t make a difference to him that Rangel did, and that it’s Griffith who will have to handle whether or not any dollars are returned.

The NRCC did not immediately return a request for comment.
